Australia clinches its third Cricket World Cup
Australia clinched their third Cricket World Cup with a 125-run victory over India, and captain Ricky Ponting led the way with a spectacular unbeaten century.
With Ponting bludgeoning eight sixes in his blistering 140, Australia hit massive 359 for two - their highest-ever one-day total.
Despite a fighting 82 from Virender Sehwag, India were bowled out for 234 and Australia celebrated becoming the only side to win all of their matches in a World Cup tournament.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting was adjudged the man of the match. Star batsman Sachin Tendulker was declared the man of the tournament.
Australia set mammoth target of 360 for India
JOHANNESBURG: Ricky Ponting blazed an unbeaten 140 to propel Australia to their highest score in one-dayers in the World Cup final in Johannesburg.
A stand of 234, the highest partnership in any World Cup final, between Ponting and Damien Martyn swung the balance in Australia's favour after Harbhajan Singh took two wickets.
Harbhajan dismissed openers Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden after the pair put on a first-wicket stand of 105 in 14 overs.
India win toss, elect to field in World Cup final
JOHANNESBURG: India won the toss and elected to field first in Johannesburg in the ICC Cricket World Cup final against Australia on Sunday.
India has named an unchanged side to the one that beat Kenya in the semi-final. Meanwhile, Damien Martyn returned to the Australian side, replacing Ian Harvey.

can provide hospitality to only 15 players as this was the routine
