Profile:
Desmond
Chumney, born in St Kitt,s but now resident in Toronto, is a
hard-hitting upper order bat who is a long-standing member of the
Canadian team. He played in the 1997 ICC Trophy with modest
success, and has been a regular ever since. He has perhaps not
realized his full potential playing for the national squad, with a
single half century in ten ICC Trophy matches and a similar record
in 12 matches in the Red Stripe Bowl. His potential was shown in
the 2000 Red Stripe bowl when he made a spectacular 58 against
Trinidad and Tobago, hitting five sixes against a strong attack.
His 36 made under tremendous pressure in the victory over Scotland
that took Canada to the World Cup at the 2001 ICC Trophy was
another career highlight - "the powerfully built right hander
not so much eased into his shots as fairly threw his bat and
weight behind them". He scored 113 vs Warwickshire in a
practice match in Cape Town prior to the Six Nations Tournament
last year. He plays for Victoria Park CC in the Toronto and
District League
