Profile:

An outstanding allrounder at schoolboy level, Lokuarachchi stepped up to the Sri Lankan squad in the aftermath of the 2003 World Cup. Primarily a legspinner in the Anil Kumble mould, he is capable of maintaining great discipline on unreceptive surfaces. Also a competent, well-organised batsman and a lively fielder, there had been high hopes that he would be able to pin down a regular place. But a fatal late-night car crash in Aug 2003 was followed by a four-month disciplinary ban. Some good performances though in the 2004 Provincial Tournament eased him back into contention and he won back a place in the national squad during the Australia tour.
