Signature
lines of clothing that are inspired, crafted and fine-tuned by film
stars themselves is the hottest new trend in the world of fashion.
Countless celebrities around the world are doing it. Not content with
merely endorsing clothing brands or gracing the opening of clothing
stores, hot and happening celebrities are cashing in on their celebrity
appeal and are increasingly getting involved with fashion wear at
the sketching stage itself.
The link between celebrities and fashion goes back a long way. Everyone
wants to look and dress like their favourite icons. That makes celebrity
designers a welcome breath of fresh air in the fashion industry. We
want to see them grow and define fashion in a new light.
With the plethora of celebrities attempting to make this transition,
Instep decided to wade through the pool to give you a list of our
favourite celebrity-turned designers, both here at home and out there
in the world |

| Vaneeza
Ahmed |
| |
|
| |
| Out
of all the people in the fashion industry, it had to be Vinnie adopted
a popular formula and then made it her own. Vaneeza is associated
with V9, a line of lawn fabric which has created quite a stir in Pakistan.
Having worked with the big brands like Al-Karam and Gul Ahmed, Vaneeza
had enough experience to understand the psyche of the consumer. Hence
she has teamed up with four designers and Mohammad Farooq Textiles
and created a range of lawn fabrics that are a delight. Vaneeza has
managed to make the year-round boring fabric into a fashionable and
trendy statement. We love the vibrant colours and psychedelic designs
that are a world apart from dull prints from yesteryear mills! And
with a fashion show featuring five top designers using her fabric,
we think this cat has more tricks up her sleeve! |

| Junaid
Jamshed |
| |
|
| |
| The
famous singer-turned designer has been a favourite for the young and
old alike since 1987. However, while his initial claim to fame was
his melodious voice, Junaid Jamshed did a complete 180-degree turn
and went from singing to designing after he became religious. His
brands, J. and Naerang (colors for women) have been successful in
introducing casual and formal Pakistani wear for men and women. His
J. range for men has given a trendy style to formal kurtas, shalwar
kameezes, kurtis, sherwanis, turbans, and khussas merging eastern
tradition with fashionable designs. Similarly, his range for women
includes beautiful hand-woven, block printed, screen printed, and
lawn fabrics in vibrant colours, as well as hip and stylish kurtis.
But Junaid's creativity and sense of diversity doesn't end here. He
has also introduced a range of mesmerizing fragrances for both men
and women. After Amir Adnan, it is Junaid who has truly branched out
in the business of fashion! |

| John
Abraham |
| |
 |
| |
| The
Bollywood hunk that we all have been enthralled by, John Abraham,
has joined hands with Wrangler, the denim brand from Arvind Brands,
to design a limited edition clothing line, for men and women. The
range reflects John's own style and how he would like to see women.
In fact, John's involvement with the range is truly personal. Each
piece of his collection comes with small notes sticking out from the
inside pockets containing personal comments from the actor himself
(we can't help but swoon at this!), on the design, style and how he
came up with the look. |

| Hrithik
Roshan |
| |
 |
| |
| The
green-eyed stud, whose sense of style many men have tried to emulate
after Kaho Na Pyar Hai and Krish, has decided to collaborate with
ITC's John Player label. He is working with the company's design team
on a signature collection to "infuse his personal touch into
the brand". From shirts, trousers, cargos, denims, outerwear,
to suits and accessories, the range is making a strong statement in
the fashion world. What we love most about this collaboration is not
only that we get quality with style, but also that the pricing makes
Hrithik's range accessible to people at large. Hey, this will be better
than Krrish costumes! |

| Kate
Moss |
| |
 |
| |
| The
launch of Kate Moss' collection at London's cool (and cheap) store
is yet another of the high-low celebrity tie-ups, where icons are
stepping down to earth for name collaborations with fast fashion retailers.
Kate has worked with the Topshop team to bring her own unique sense
of style (which no designer can possibly capture!) to the Topshop
stores. Her collection is playful, bright, trendy, bohemian, and chic
all together. Kate has always had street cred when it comes to style.
And it is the street she is designing for. Couture is way too finicky!

| Gwen
Stefani |
| |
 |
| |
| Gwen
is truly a versatile woman. From singing, to designing to acting,
there isn't anything that Gwen doesn't excel at. Her signature line
L.A.M.B. - love angel music baby - debuted in 2003. The range consists
of clothing, from t-shirts to blazers, pants, shoes, and accessories
that she is often seen wearing herself. With the success L.A.M.B.,
in June 2005, Gwen decided to expand her collection with the less
expensive Harajuku Lovers line, with varied products including a camera,
baby clothes, mobile phone charms, and undergarments. If you remember,
Gwen designed and wore her own clothes when she was starting off with
No Doubt. Her wacky dress sense made her stand out. Now she's taken
it one step further. |
