'Billie Jean'

Chris Cornell

Originally sung by Michael Jackson back in his heydays, this live cover version by Chris Cornell, in one word, is awesome.

Chris Cornell has that raw, husky voice that stands ou t amongst all other rock singers. The song by Michael is catchy but here's why you must download this.

The treatment is definitely different. It's slower, it's on an acoustic guitar and Chris in that sexy voice has done a magnificent job. Simply put, it is extremely powerful and addictive.

Sung in September 2006 in Sweden, the cover is one that even got picked up at American Idol this year when David Cook performed a similar version of the same.

'Billie Jean' is an iconic song and that in itself is intriguing enough for one to download it. But coupled with Chris Cornell, it makes for a must-have ditty on your I-Pod.

'Duvet'

Boa

Formed in 1993 in England, this alternative rock band is known outside the United Kingdom through their one and so far only hit, 'Duvet'. Featuring sultry singer Jasmine Rodgers on vocals, Steve Rodgers on guitars, Alex Caird on bass and Lee Sullivan on drums, Boa is an essentially alternative rock music outfit that hasn't been able to break out as a massive musical entity like contemporaries The Corrs, Arctic Monkeys, KT Tunsall or Amy Winehouse… to name a few.

Even though, musically 'Duvet' isn't very edgy or experimental but it works effectively because of its desperate vocals and tortuous wordplay that goes, "And you don't seem the lying kind/A shame that I can read your mind/And all the things that I read there/Candle-lit smile that we both share/And you know I don't mean to hurt you/But you know that it means so much/And you don't even feel a thing".

Interestingly enough, Boa signed their first album deal with a Japanese record label called Polystar and their debut album, Race of a Thousand Camels, was only released in Japan. 'Duvet' was then featured in an anime series and won this band limited international popularity. It was in 2001 with Twilight, their first album release in US through which Boa rose to some success. 'Duvet' was also featured on this album. Boa went onto release another album, Get There, in 2005 and is currently working on some material but the release remains unknown. For now, give this British rocking band a chance. They really deserve it!

'Fable'

Robert Miles

Winner of World Music Award and Brit Award in 1997, DJ/electronic tech man Robert Miles scored his biggest musical hit with 'Fable' in Europe, America as well as clubs all over the world. With piano as his instrument, 'Fable' boasts of musical grandeur. With turntables, electric tech weird beats and a constant flux in pace, it is a moody number that deserves a hear. Born in Switzerland, Robert Miles as a child has been playing the piano. He made it big in 1995 with the Dream Work Project, off which his first single, 'Children' was a runaway hit, establishing Miles in the electric dance genre as a great addition. 'Fable', which is slightly similar to 'Children' compounded this success and reached platinum status all across Europe. A great instrumental, it gets two thumbs up!
