Verses from Ghalib…
Gar khaamshi se faaida
ikhfaaye-haal hai
Khush hoon keh meri baat
samajhni muhaal hai
(If silence facilitates the
concealment of my state
Delighted I am to remain
uncomprehended)
Hasti ke mat faraib mein
aajaaiyo, Asad!
'Aalam tamaam
halqa-e-daam-e-khayal hai!
(Do not be deluded by
existence, Asad!
All is enchained in the
realm of thought!)
--Asadullah Khan Ghalib
Hermit
By Ali
Akhtar Butt
Sitting
under a cloudy tree,
Crying
under the raining blue,
Oh,
the serenity of water-drops,
I,
I say nothing at all...
Sitting
on the roof of heaven,
Crying
for the sun; it never shone,
Oh,
the pain is impure,
I,
I say nothing at all...
Sitting
in the casket of death,
Crying
above the sounds of cold,
Oh,
hermit sees the future no more,
I,
I say nothing at all...
Sitting
in the glow of gold,
Crying,
it's not true, I tell you,
Oh,
curse is seen, everyone weeps,
I,
I say nothing at all...
Sitting
in the temple of peace,
Crying,
I had seen all cure,
Oh,
plain words are not simple,
I,
I say nothing at all...
A
candle in your life
By
Rabia Khalid
If
I could, I would be
A
candle in your life
Melting
myself,
And
giving you light
Shimmering
in the dark,
the
smiling eyes
Trying
to sweep away,
All
your pain and sorrows
So
that you suffer no more,
For
I'll be there for you,
To
comfort you, to console you
I'll
burn myself
Bear
all the sultriness,
Till
my restless eyes,
Become
painful and sore
Just
to provide you light
Through
every walk of life…
A dual
challenge
By Syed
Aadil Omer
The
honest toilers; our ancestors,
Collected
the stones thrown at them,
And
the mud slung at them, to build a house.
They
mixed the ingredients with their
Sweat
and their blood; the colour of love
To
make it a home.
A
few seeds of mistrust evolved into trees of
Contempt
in the hearts of the second generation.
And
with the help of neighbours
They
themselves erected a wall of separation.
The
nameplate of my home which used to
Read,
'Unity' is rusted and withered since long.
Suspicion
crept into our yard and settled
In
every corner of the square as if
Measuring
a division.
I
can hear the footsteps of aliens fast
Approaching
our home, and I'm faced
With
a dual challenge; of repairing the
Storm
lashed doors and of wiping all
The
germs of contempt.
I'll
keep the forces of 'division' at bay
"It's
a negative process," said a mathematician…
Departure
By Naveed Ulfat Khan
Someone's
been crying all night
I
can see the dew on the grass
Dew
is but some silent tears
Crystal
clear, like glass
Someone's
been talking through the night
I
could hear the gushing winds
Wind
is but a whisper too
When
it meets the trees, it sings
Someone
has left in the cover of night
I
can see an empty broken heart
Heart
is but a loved one's home
Alas!
Love is a lost art…
Flux and
reflux
By Shabina
Gul
Running
away, running away
Jittery
spinster
Leaving
behind
The
niggardly, base world
That
gave her nothing
But
self disgrace
Tears
Gashes
But
no pledges
On
her bleeding wounds
She
was running away
Dismayed
Mistreated
Ah!
Dear me!
World
is round
She
again stumbled there
From
where she had started running
Again
in the midst
Of
callous beasts
Reward
By Manal
Farrukh Khan
The
eternal conflict
Between
super ego and id
Has
captivated many
Demanding
endless sacrifices
Of
wishes and whims
The
insatiable greed
Of
one's conscience
Gluttonously
consumes
Continuously
feeds
Upon
such attractive
And
pleasant dreams
Slaughtered
And
aborted
Are
numerous fantasies
In
the name of abstinence
Of
spiritual beliefs
If
reined and leashed
We
were destined to be
Then
why bless us
With
a mind
So
liberal
So
free
I
raise my head
And
look up
Overwhelmed
by sudden curiosity
My
query is answered
By
a knowing smile
And
now I realise
Why
we will be rewarded
With
such a heavenly prize
