Top 10 reasons to 'not' watch Saawariya
Critics argue that Saawariya remains Sanjay Leela Bhasali's weakest film yet. Instep presents a tongue-in-cheek list of reasons on why you shouldn't go for this film…

By Insiya Syed

10. Most of the songs that were being aired as 'promos' had already come and gone in the first 30 minutes! And considering the film is a 'musical' - the title song is the only good track in the entire soundtrack.

9. There was major confusion in my mind as to what era the movie had been set in - one minute you see Urdu typography on a wall, next minute you see Buddha's statue in a Venice like setting and third minute you see Mona Lisa's picture on a curtain! Overall confusing the audience as to what the director was trying to show as far as the setting/time-period/culture was concerned.

8. The hero (Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's son) Ranbir - ends up looking like a mix of Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan and it didn't work for me at all. The girl (Anil Kapoor's daughter) Sonam – however has gorgeous eyes and a great smile!

7. After the first three reasons you are almost about to doze off and any film that requires an extra effort to keep the eyes open is a bad film already!

6. Since the heroine has been shown as a Muslim girl she couldn't show skin. What to do, the director thought. Voila! Let's get our very gora hero to show his skin and dance with a towel wrapped around the waist! In short: it was gross beyond words.

5. If you see the movie - frame by frame - it works. Each and every shot of the movie has superb lighting and an uber perfect frame. As a movie - moving images - it doesn't work and comes across as a drag!

4. The film is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story, White Nights. And if you haven't read the story than your reaction will be the same as my brother's: bad. Since the entire movie has been shot on the same set, meaning what you see in the video of the title track Saawariya is what you see in the rest of the movie also. And the entire movie has been shot at night, and maybe a scene or two in daylight.

3. I think it's one of those movies where the director is mainly taking out his 'tharak', passion and creative ideas that he had wanted to execute but had not been able to due to a typical Bollywood formula that everyone's used to watching. But surely one expects more from the director of Black.

2. Overall: very ainwee.

1. Do you actually still need a top 1 reason?
Enough said.
