From the Editor

Dear all,

We love to react. We love to react sharply, aggressively and melodramatically. It's our national trait. If only we could start reacting against extremism, injustice and the apparent lack of restraint and excesses...

We hear about the offspring of the heavyweights using unfair means to obtain admission in public colleges, depriving the deserving students who are not well connected. The matter becomes even more serious when the perpetrator is the custodian of our judicial system.

We do not protest. We are immune to such things!

We read about a minister cheating the taxpayers by stealing electricity for his son's wedding. No problem, what's the big deal? All ministers do it.

We will very soon start seeing herds of sacrificial animals imported from Australia, New Zealand etc. by the rich to show off their wealth! Oh, it is their love for sunat-e-Ibrahimi! Who can find fault with it?

Just hope that they decide to send at least a part of that money for the earthquake victims of Quetta.

Coming to this week's issue, we have Iqra Asad with a different and interesting cover story about Eid-ul-Azha. We were smiling all the time while reading it and we hope it will bring a smile to your face as well. But in no way is it a 'funny' cover. In the apparently witty lines there's a subtle message… Sorry, we are not going to reveal it here. You will have to understand it yourself… Let's see how many of you succeed in doing that.

Other than that we have some really interesting articles in our Experience, Speak Out and Globetrotter sections. Read them and enjoy! We wish you a happy Eid-ul-Azha in advance!

Till next week,

Allah Hafiz

Reflection

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samura (RA):

The Prophet (PBUH)said, "O 'Abdur-Rahman! Do not seek to be a ruler, for if you are given authority on your demand then you will be held responsible for it, but if you are given it without asking (for it), then you will be helped (by Allah) in it. If you ever take an oath to do something and later on you find that something else is better, then you should expiate your oath and do what is better."

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 89, Number 260
