Industrial development is considered
as the key to progress of a country. In the development
of a country two resources play a vital role i.e. human
resources and natural resources. Pakistan has these two
resources in abundance. Inspite of these resources,
Pakistan is considered an underdeveloped country. The
reason of this that our human resources are inactive I
mean to say that they are untrained and uneducated. They
are illiterate and have no technical knowledge to use
their natural resources.
This is the third book of the series
and I have fulfilled the demands of 24-Week post
graduate diploma courses participants that a book may be
written in English as per requirement of the PGD course.
This book consists of ten chapters. First Chapter
reveals the hierarchy of labour administration
prevailing in the country. Second chapter discuss the
five labour policies of Pakistan. Third chapter is about
the labour legislation. The fourth chapter is about
industrial relations he history, scope and importance of
these relations are given. Fifth Chapter focuses on
"trade unions struggle in Pakistan. In Sixth
Chapter health and safety measures are discussed with
reference to the Factories Act, 1934, and the
Environmental Act, of 1997. The seventh chapter is
reserved for social research, where it is explained that
"what is research" and how a research is
conducted. The eighth chapter is about ILO, where it
discusses what ILO is, its role, and how it works. The
ninth chapter discusses ISO-9000-2001, ISO-14001 and
SA-8000. And lastly the tenth chapter is about
globalization and WTO and its agreement.
The purpose of writing this book is
to facilitate the participants of 24-Week PGDP and
provide them a text book according to seven subjects
offered in the 24-Week PGD in which every important
topic and subject has been incorporated so that they may
not feel any difficult about the PGD course in
connection with the material on PGD.

The numbers of on going conflicts
around the world are uncountable. In Palestine, the
intractable conflict between the Palestinians and
Israelis which has been going on for more than 50 years
is still going on and there seems to be no end in sight.
The wards in Afghanistan and Iraq which began in this
century might prove to be new protracted conflicts. In
the Democratic Republic of Congo, violent conflict has
claimed approximately two million lives. In Sierra
Leone, the conflict was mutated by intentions of gaining
control of the diamond trade. In Sri Lanka, a country
which has witnessed 25 years of violent conflict,
violence intensified when the government pulled out of
the Ceasefire Agreement at the beginning of 2008.
Conflict resolution, which deals with
root causes of conflict and attempts to find a win-win
solution, has illustrated some difficulties in breaking
a vicious conflict cycle. People sometimes fight for
non-negotiable interests like identity. The editor of
this volume, Moonis Ahmar, has been engaged in the field
of conflict resolution for a long time. He has written
two books and also edited many volumes pertaining to
conflict resolution, mainly in the South Asian region.
Conflicts like Israeli-Palestinian, Lebanon, Kashmir,
Tamil-Sinhala and Darfur are going on since long, but
their peaceful resolution is not forthcoming. Hence, the
justification to pursue the option of conflict
management for the realistic handling of a conflict
which can help manage a conflict so that it does not
cause more loss of life. But can conflict management
provide a break to parties who are engaged in a vicious
cycle of conflict at the local, national, regional and
international level or the very idea to follow the road
to peace by conflict management is unattainable because
human mind is aggressive and vicious which is no doubt a
major impediment to efforts of peace with justice? |
