Raeth
disappoints with 'Tumharey Liye' |
| |
After the monumental success of their debut single, 'Bhula Do' and
self-titled album, Raeth is back with another video, 'Tumharey Liye'.
Unfortunately, neither the video nor the song is good. Wajhi Farooqi
as a vocalist sounds quite out of sync with this track. Other than
bad vocals, one gets a feeling that Wajhi is (un) consciously trying
to sound like Atif Aslam. The video for this song was shot in India
and even though, it is technically superior than 'Bhula Do', it is
simply bad. On one hand is the band performing and on the other hand
is this girl, dancing in the rain and strumming a guitar. It's all
quite filmi.
|
 |
| There
is no harm in a girl-boy love theme video but it all depends
on the presentation with which this concept is presented. In Raeth's
case, the presentation remains the same ol' and it doesn't work. Commercially
speaking, this video has been doing well and the way Raeth is going,
they just might be the next Jal. Our advice to the band would be trying
practicing more and draw less inspiration from corny Indian films!

Musicians
rock Karachi |
| |
| 2006
was a witness to some phenomenal concerts. Last year marked Overload's
first major show in Karachi, which opened to a packed house. 2006
saw Mekaal Hasan Band perform on a consistent basis. Aaroh, who have
recently released their second album, Raag Neela have also performed
consistently and this is one band that has improved with every performance.
But the biggest performer has been Ali Azmat. The man along with his
new live band comprising of guitar virtuoso Ziyyad Gulzar did more
than 50 shows, just in Pakistan. Ali was also featured in the UROCK
gig that took |
 |
| place
recently at the PAF Museum and performed to a packed house. This concert
also marked the entry of Call to Karachi and they turned out to be
the biggest crowd pullers that night. Now that Ali Zafar and Atif
Aslam are back with new albums, one will hopefully witness more concerts
in the coming months. And here's hoping that 2007 will mark concerts
from new entry such as Roxen, Siege, Arieb Azhar and Sajid and Zeeshan!

Sa
Re Ga Ma Pa to feature local talent? |
| |
| The
music based show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, now running in its 11th year may
feature Pakistani contestants early next year. The show that takes
place in India has contestants coming in from all over India. In the
past few years, this show has been taken to countries like USA and
UAE among many others. After the success of its first Middle East
Challenge, TV executives have decided to make a second season. Other
than featuring contestants from Oman, Bahrain and Qatar, they also
want people from Pakistan to participate. In all probability, the
show will be shot in Dubai but contestants will |
 |
| be
flown in from Pakistan, if they get selected. 32 contestants will
be finalised from five countries. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is the longest running
music competition TV show in the history of television. Names like
Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Kunal Ganjawala – who are now huge in Bollywood
first found success through this show. Considering that the viewership
that ranges somewhere in between 300 and 350 million people worldwide,
it would be a great opportunity for talent discovery of Pakistan.
So, watch out for auditioning dates. |

| Asha
Bhosle and friends – an interesting album |
| |
| If
any vocalist knows how to sell music, it is Asha Bhosle. Her team
up with boy band Code Red in 1997 put her on the international music
front. Her latest collaboration, however, remains the biggest to date.
Asha's latest pop album, Asha and Friends Volume 1 features many guest
vocalists, including Bollywood stars Urmila Matondkar and Sanjay Dutt.
The most interesting voice on the album, however, belongs to Australian
bowler, Brett Lee. So far, two videos from the album are out. And
both tracks are just a lot of fun. The sound is very contemporary
and a little hip-hopish. Where the video for 'Aapke Dil Mein' is a
simple performance video with Sanju Baba and Asha recording and dancing
in a studio, it is the video for 'Haan Main Tumhara Hoon' featuring
Brett Lee on guest vocals that deserves a watch. One and only reason
is Brett Lee. Not only is his voice good, but if you want to see him
try his hand at Hindi, than this is a must video to catch. Brett Lee
has never looked this cute before! |
