Ali
Zafar's rocking 'Sajania' |
| |
Out of the new school of pop music in Pakistan, Ali Zafar is the one
musician who knows just exactly how to make a big bang. Just after
release of his video, 'Masty', he released his new album. And now
he is back with another bang in the form of his latest video, 'Sajania'.
The video has a very interesting story to tell: a robbery takes places
and the players include a pretty girl and the goatied Ali Zafar. But
as soon as cops arrive, the girl disappears and Ali gets caught in
the middle. He strikes a deal, plants a few ounces of drugs on the
girl and walks away. Now, this concept is not new. The West has been
at it for years; John Grisham has been writing plots like these in
his novels since a long time. But the reason why it still works is
because of the execution and the styling. While the plot is unraveling
in the video, Ali is also shown grooving to the track, flanked by
two girls on his side. Technically, its sharp and thematically, it
gels well with the song. This video is another winner for Ahsan Rahim
who shares direction credits with Savio Rodriguez. Musically, 'Sajania'
is slower than 'Masty' and both tracks churn out a different vibe.
Where 'Masty' was more chaotic and youthful, 'Sajania' has a romantic
yet tongue-in-cheek quality to it. The fact that Ali

looks cute in the video only adds to the concept. If you haven't already
seen it, do see it. Fabulous video, indeed! |

Mizraab
comes back with 'Ujalon Mein' |
| |
|
After the unprecedented success of their debut album, Maazi Haal Mustaqbil
(2004) Mizraab is back once again and this time, they look and sound
even better. Known to be a heavy metal band, Mizraab's latest track,
'Ujalon Mein' comes as a surprise. It's a very simple song, with bass,
guitars and drums forming the musical structure. At the same time,
this is a melodic song. Unlike most Mizraab number such as the hard-hitting
'Panchi' or the guitar dominant 'Insaan', 'Ujalon Mein' is somewhat
mellow. The video for this track is also decent. Shot in black and
white theme, the video shows the band sitting and performing but just
the way its been executed, the movement of camera in particular makes
all the difference. Faraz's long hair is gone. He has gone short and
it suits him, thanks to |

by Sajid. It must also be said that Faraz's vocals have improved tremendously.
On Maazi Haal Mustaqbil, one often felt that sometimes he sounded
a tad over pitched but this time no such complaints can be made. This
is a mellow number from Mizraab but an excellent one at that. Do check
the video out... |
