Hotstepper of the week
Atif Aslam
|

We
like Atif! He knows what he wants and he knows how to get it. After
the mindblowing Jalpari that made him a household name, he followed
up with the remixes of 'Woh Lamhe' and 'Aadat' that made him a household
name in India. Everyone on both sides of the borders danced to them.
He then endeared himself further with 'Tere Bin' for a Bollywood film
that once again ignited imaginations.
"Baysura," was a judgement often passed on him and it still
is, but even his detractors can't deny the fact that Atif Aslam is
a star, the likes of which come along rarely.
He then launched Doorie in India, an album comprised solely of remixes
that critics bashed here at home. Hopwever that didn't stop the title
track 'Doorie' and the 'Hum Kis Gali Ja Rahe Hain' from becoming superhit
numbers, again on both sides of the border. Yet people at home remained
unhappy. This wasn't his kind of music, not what we associated with
him… Doorie was no Jalpari.

And
now Atif, the maverick wonder boy of Pakistan's music industry is
back with Meri Kahani, an organic album that has Pakistan tuning in
once again. He's also released the same in India. He says Doorie was
his way of breaking India in to the music he really wants to make.
While we may criticize him for his strategy, we still believe he is
a hotstepper because he just does it, and moreover, makes no bones
about it!
Here's hoping that this is just the beginning of Atif's kahani and
that there are many more twists in the tale! |
