The 'blockbuster' sound!
After bringing to you the best of soundtracks from the Pakistani television screen, we now present some must have tracks from Hollywood. Recent Hollywood releases that have made an impression at the box office also had another plus point - their melodic soundtracks. Instep recommends some great tunes to add to your playlist this week.

'Flightless Bird'
- Iron and Wine
Twilight

The soundtrack of Twilight is as good as the movie itself. As much as you will get mesmerized by the movie, the soundtrack will further pull you into the Twilight spell. From the beautiful score, this week's biggest recommendation is 'Flightless Bird' by Iron and Wine. Sam Beam of Iron and Wine has done a great job on the vocals. The song is not just beautiful it is very well gelled into the movie.
"I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins/ All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys/ Then when the cops closed the fair, I cut my long baby hair/
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere/ Have I found you/ Flightless bird, jealous, weeping or lost you, American mouth."
In any case, you are sure to fall in love with the young couple even if the girl is a pretty innocent face and the guy is a vampire. Other notable songs include 'Blue Foundation' and 'Kiss the Rain', played by the main lead Edward Cullen in the movie. These two tracks are worth downloading too but the first choice should be 'Flightless Bird'. You wouldn't just stop listening to it once you have it in your system.
'I Want My Son Back' - Clint Eastwood

Changeling

Angelina Jolie's heart rending portrayal of a mother searching for her son has won millions of hearts worldwide, but the song 'I Want My Son Back' is another heart winner as well. Changeling has been directed by Clint Eastwood, and surprisngly, he also composed the soundtrack to his film. He usually composes for his own movies, such as Grace Is Gone and even Mystic River which were very good efforts by Eastwood and with Changeling he has moved a step forward.
'I Want My Son Back' is a mellow instrumental, reminding one of the deep sorrow of a mother longing for her lost son. Though it's not an amazing album in all but 'I Want My Son Back' is one track you should add to your playlist. This three minute 40 second track will transport you into another world as it is quite intense in nature.
The whole track slowly progresses with the constant playing of a piano meeting up with the violin on and off throughout the song. With profound feelings and minimum instruments, Clint Eastwood has saved the album from drowning amidst other impressive soundtracks.

'Mausam and Escape'
- A.R. Rahman
Slumdog Millionaire

The man who not just conquered Bollywood but has also set his foot firmly in the global world of music through collaborations - A.R. Rahman has done it again for the brilliant soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire. He has previously composed for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams and a stage adaptation of Lord of the Rings as well. The music maestro's upcoming work will be Dilli 6 and Blue.
The composer, who won the Golden Globe award for Best Original Soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire, has his eyes set on an Oscar win next! And while 'O Saya' with M.I.A and 'Ringa Ringa', a groovy version of Khal Nayak's 'Choli Ke Peechay' are both excellent tracks, one must-have song is 'Mausam and Escape'.
The instrumental is played in the background whenever the main lead Jamal and his brother run away from possible dangers in life. 'Mausam and Escape' has Rahman at his best once again - especially after the downer that the Yuvvraaj soundtrack was. And Rahman's flair for experimentation is highlighted best in 'Mausam and Escape', which gets you going through your rough days!

'Benjamin and Daisy' - Alexander Desplat
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Brad Pitt starrer film has made a mark on the Hollywood box office, and its score doesn't disappoint. Benjamin Button is a tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time. And, in this journey of life the music of the movie takes its twists and turns as well.
The tracks of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button range across a number of genres from jazz to blues to simple mellow tunes. But the song which combines an emotional quotient as well as sweetness in its melody is 'Benjamin and Daisy'. These are the names of the two main characters of the movie played by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett respectively. 'Benjamin and Daisy' is one tune that can bring a smile to your face by thinking of someone and can even bring back memories of some lost souls.
'Benjamin and Daisy' has been composed by Alexander Desplat and runs to a time slot of two minutes 32 seconds. Alexander Desplat has previously done scores for The Queen, The Painted Veil, The Firewall and The Golden Compass.

Other songs to watch out for from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button are 'Out Of Nowhere', 'Sunrise on Lake Pontchartrain', 'A New Life' and 'We Shall Walk through the Streets of the City'. If you have seen the movie then you will love the different shades of sound, all in accordance with the different moods of Benjamin's life.
