Pretty in print

Geometric
prints have never really gone out of style but they are slated to
rule in 2009. Outfits and accessories in shape-inspired patterns including
the long classic striped pattern will definitely be en vogue this
year. But wear stripes with a slight twist, instead of the conventional
vertical stripes chose prints that are a bit psychedelic.
These slight twists on geometric patterns in every fabric possible
are all must-haves for the season ahead. For spring, pick these up
in lighter fabrics, particularly printed chiffon, and for the summer,
accessorize your lawn clothes and t-shirts with geometric accessories
including shoes and bags. And the print fiesta has already started
to show up at home, from the runways to the red carpets.
Deepak Perwani sent geometric patterns in diamond shapes down the
runways for his last collection (left), and accessory designer Mahin
Hussain seemed inspired by geometrical prints for her Fall/Winter
collection, most notably seen in a lovely cutout bag in forest green
(inset). And LSA 2008 Best Emerging Talent winner, model Rabia Butt
(right) wore a geometric inspired dress from Kuki Concepts to the
LSAs.
Prints are a perfect way to be bold and beautiful without embellishments
and frills, and choose them based on your body structure. Remember
the classic rule: vertical stripes for a slimming effect, horizontal
stripes to add shape. And they are great to brighten up a plain outfit:
a scarf or stole patterned in squares or circles, or a bold handbag
with appliqué shapes. Print's never looked so pretty! |
