FASHION UPDATE
Make love not war |
| |
| Today,
with wars raging in the world, designers are finding it impossible
to ignore the chaos around them. The military style of dressing was
brought into the limelight last winter and continues as far as menswear
is concerned. Gaultier and Galliano’s collections at the recent
menswear shows at Paris Fashion Week bear witness to that. However,
for the common man who is struggling with rising mercury in summers,
the military becomes a little too hot too handle and the answer lies
in hippie chic. By referring back to the ‘70s, the era of Woodstock
and Flower Power, fashionistas are embracing trends that prove they
are just as committed to the cause of peace. Flower Power was a movement
that promoted non-violence and everything associated with that era
has become ever-so-popular even today. Rastafarian colours: red, yellow,
gold and green are in again. Sunglasses have gotten bigger than ever
– Victoria Beckham just launched her own brand (see pic above)
last week, endorsing the goggle. Jeans have become flared and tight
waisted and yes, colourful too. Natural fabrics move into power with
the peace movement – the season will see a lot of muslin, khaadi,
crochet and lace. Rizwan Beyg’s new casual wear line bears testament
to this rising trend. And lastly beads…accessories become as
beady as possible. So go crazy with flower power this summer. |
