1.'Teri
Yaad'
Sajjad Ali
'Teri Yaad' is easily
one of Sajjad Ali's finest tracks to date. With its melancholic
feel and subtle instrumentation such as morbid acoustic guitar,
angry tablas and Sajjad's classically trained vocals, it really
rocks. As far as lyrics go, "Teri yaad satandi/Meno teri yaad
satandi/Neendar nai aandi/Meno maar gai duri/Meri ki majbori/Ho
gai majbor hayati /Neendar nahi aandi" it is a heartbreaking
number that points to missing someone terribly. This song also saw
Sajjad Ali go through a slight make over. Sajjad Ali's brother,
Waqar Ali who is ace composer for Pakistani plays, has composed
the music. It was in 2002 when 'Teri Yaad' first released off the
same titled album. Both Sajjad and Waqar teamed up and together
delivered this solid number.
Sajjad Ali is perhaps one of those few artistes in the commercial
music scene who has been consistent with his music. And if you like
this song, 'Chal Rein Day', Sajjad Ali's last great number is also
worthy of a listen. For now, check this song out.

1.'Jhok
Ranjhan'
Mekaal Hasan Band
The
first single off Mekaal Hasan Band's second upcoming record, this
track is simply fabulous. As far as music goes, it is classic MHB
sound but the variation in pace and sudden outburst of drums and guitars
gives this song edge over most guitar-oriented songs that come out
these days. With Javed Bashir's hard hitting vocals, Sameer Ahmed's
subtle bass playing and Gumby drumming up a storm, Pappu's melodic
flute under the wing of producer/guitarist Mekaal Hasan, 'Jhok Ranjhan'
is really a platform where all musicians shine. With its Eastern wordplay
and sophisticated western sound with influences of Jazz that are synonymous
with Mekaal and Gumby, 'Jhok Ranjhan' is classic. What's worth noting
is that even the production value of this song is quite crisp and
sharp. With their first album, Sampooran, Mekaal Hasan impressed critics
all over and developed a steady following. Now though, Mekaal Hasan
Band's audience has grown and hopefully with their upcoming album,
one will see them conquer even more fans. Mekaal Hasan has plans of
releasing videos of all songs on Andholan so it will be a while before
one sees this album get released. But until then, do download 'Jhok
Ranjhan'.

1.'Fable'
Robert Miles
Winner of World
Music Award and Brit Award in 1997, DJ/electronic tech man
Robert Miles scored his biggest musical hit with 'Fable' in
Europe, America as well as clubs all over the world. With
piano as his instrument, 'Fable' boasts of musical grandeur.
With turntables, electric tech weird beats and a constant
flux in pace, it is a moody number that deserves a hear. Born
in Switzerland, Robert Miles as a child has been playing the
piano. He made it big in 1995 with the Dream Work Project,
off which his first single, 'Children' was a runaway hit,
establishing Miles in the electric dance genre as a great
addition. 'Fable', which is slightly similar to 'Children'
compounded this success and reached platinum status all across
Europe. A great instrumental, it gets two thumbs up!
