Make it Yours: A navy double breasted blazer is a classic menswear staple and you can't go wrong pairing it with crisp white jeans and a button down oxford shirt.
The Top Mens' Street Style Trends From Pitti Uomo
and How To Wear Them Yourself!
By Leah Chernikoff and Hayley Phelan
One of the best parts (and my favorite part) of Florence's famed menswear trade show Pitti Immagine Uomo is the incredible street style on display. If you thought preening and peacocking was purely a women's fashion sport you are so, so wrong. The men of Pitti show the women of Paris fashion week up. And while there's always a lot of unique personal style on display (like a dude wearing a tail attached to his belt) distinct trends emerge and they're usually a sign of cool to come.
We checked in with the man who takes in all of it, street style photographer extraordinaire, Tommy Ton, to get his authoritative take on the top trends he snapped at Pitti. They're trends that we found ourselves wanting to try out, too. Susie Lau and I actually had a long discussion following the Valentino show about how much we wanted to wear menswear (especially those Valentino sneakers).
See the biggest street style trends from Pitti and how to make them work for you.
Trend: Bold Blues
Royal and cobalt blue was so big at Pitti last week that Tommy Ton dubbed the color “Pitti blue.” “Blue is the new black of summer,” he told us.
Make it Yours: Pair stripes with your bold bottoms and keep the whole look lean.
Trend: Sneakers with pops of neon (preferably Nikes or New Balance) worn with full suits
Valentino did it on the runway and Tommy Ton spotted it all over the grounds of the Fortezza da Basso. It's not something I could picture my dad doing, but these guys make it look pretty cool.
Make it Yours: The key to pulling this look off to is to opt for a tapered or peg leg.
Trend: Old-time-y accessories like pocket squares and suspenders
It seemed like everyone at Pitti was rocking a pocket square-from discreet little folds of silk to large plumes flopping over breast pockets.
Make it Yours: For a more feminine take on the pocket square, try something silk in a girly color like this model from Hermes' spring 2012 runway show-it's like a new take on the classic silk scarf!
Trend: Double breasted blazers
According to Tommy Ton, it's part of the Pitti uniform. They also require a very good tailor.
