FASHION UPDATE
Dressing for summer weddings

This week, our wishes go out to all those brides-to-be who are getting married in these hot climes. Having to manage raging tempers, deal with tents and caterers and complete your shopping lists must become extremely trying in any weather, let alone with the summer sun beating down on you. But while brides have the luxury of being pampered in salons on the day of their wedding and being transported to the venue, it's the guests who are often left wondering what exactly they can wear in this heat. While air-conditioned marquees have become commonplace, it still does pose quite the dilemma.  Fret not, this week's edition of Flash aims to help.

Chiffon, chiffon, chiffon: We cannot repeat these words enough. If you're attending weddings this summer you must wear chiffon if you plan to survive. This breezy fabric doesn't stick to your skin like raw silk or leave embarrassing patches of sweat like pure silk (hey, it had to be said!). Whether its long kaftan-like shirts in chiffon or saris - this is a must-have fabric for your wedding wardrobe.

Minimal make-up: Try to not make the mistake of wearing as much foundation as the bride. Become friends with your lighter products like concealer and bronzer and use those to hide any flaws on your skin - but refrain from clogging your pores with heavy foundation.

Embrace the gown: In an interview with Instep last year, Kuki of Kuki Concepts said he'd seen several brides opting to wear long gowns at their weddings instead of conventional bridal wear. We think: why not the wedding guest as well? This dress by Nida Azwer (pictured above) is what we're talking about…
Loosen it up: Keep in tune with this season's biggest trend - volume - and keep your clothes voluminous as well. Whether its formal wide legged pants or voluminous angrakhas, this summer you won't have to feel claustrophobic and constrained while attending weddings.

Twist the tresses: Straight blowdried hair won't last a minute in this heat at weddings..and they last for hours. Whether you twist your hair up, tie it in a conventional plait or opt for a crazy updo (not too crazy... you're still at a wedding), keep your hair off your face and neck so that you continue to look polished through a wedding event.
