FASHION UPDATE
Metallorgy |
| |
And
the rave goes on. For anything shiny, anything polished, anything
sparkling. Metal mesh and chain-mail, gold-encrusted lace and disc-worked
fabrics, a plethora of laminated textures and Fifties-inspired lame,
heavy stiff brocades and fluid lustrous satins, all are there to infuse
glamour and sophistication to daywear looks. And it doesn't matter
if it's blinding or tarnished, golden, bronze or silver, anything
from the metal palette is simply hot.
While many continue with last season's 'going natural' theme with
more feminine silhouettes, some clearly seemed to be in no mood to
comply.
Gladiator style minis, armour inspired bustiers, ladies walking in
silver, short armoured skirts and men in copper armoured bundgalas
and armoured dinner jackets with of course the staple of military
influence-exaggerated shoulders seem to be the new trend seen at fashion
weeks this year, especially India fashion week with the likes of Manish
Arora, Nitin Bal Chauhan and Suneet Varma taking metal to a whole
new level.
|
 |
| Then
there was Gaurav Gupta, who may not have been the toast of the fashion
week but did play to the trend as he sent out a model robotically
tottering in a golden sheet metal coat. Add to this the fact that
New York Fashion Week earlier this year has already kick-started the
trend of the more pronounced shoulders. So whatever you're buying
next, just remember fashion isn't as subtle and soft as it was a season
ago…this time, it's holding a sword. |

Spring
tends to get saccharine sweet with the overindulgence in florals and
bright colours. Every place you look, everywhere you go throws the
'spring is in the air' philosophy in your face. As if we didn't know!
And as if one could ignore it! The very nectar women thrive on around
this part of the year is enough to drive anyone to suicide. So we
suggest that while the world is going crazy buying floral prints and
'girlifying' them up a bit more by adding laces and trimmings and
all those pretty things little girls are supposed to be made of, reconnect
with the masculine side of you. Be a man!
No one's asking you to grow a moustache, for crying out loud. Just
show a little collar or wear a straight, no fuss tunic instead of
the fitted, curve revealing clothes (that are ironically covered up
by three yard long dupattas) everyone is bound to be showing by the
time their prints get back from the tailor. Sonya Battla has some
super tunics that are colourful but have character. Labels is always
a safe bet and the multi-label store is stocking some great designers.
Crossroads is out with their new collection 'Havana' any day and it's
always a pleasure to shop there. Visit Mantra or even the Men's Store.
Look for gender benders while the rest of the world is taking a dip
into their femininity. Believe us, you'll stand out for the better!
