Reflection

Narrated Ibn Masud (R.A):

I heard the Prophet (PBUH) saying, "There is no envy except in two: a person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e. religious knowledge) and he gives his decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others."

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 24, Number 490

Letters

Dear readers,

It's been a long time since we had a 'heart to heart', and you already know the reason for it: your letters! You know that it is your feedback that keeps Us on our toes, so we cannot dump your letters and occupy the cherished space for out tête-à-tête!

Coming to this week's issue, we have a doc from King Edward brandishing swords! Now imagine doctors doing it! Oh, we all know that they have this habit of giving heart attacks to their patients by plunging paper swords uh, we mean medical bills, right into the hearts of their poor patients, but here we have Awais Aftab with his array of the weapons (read swords) which he, being a reader and contributor of Us, will never ever use on his patients. So readers, you can go to him without fear with this editorial, and you will get a free check up!:)

We are in love with Faiqah's 'I was in love with a lyricist', and we hope that you enjoy its fifth instalment, too. In the 'Speak Out' section, we have Butool Hisam with 'Four leg pieces'. It will leave you gasping for air. Please pray for peace in our country.

Talking about peace, we would like to have your opinion on how peace can be achieved between India and Pakistan. Can 'Aman ki Asha' build bridges and help in building 'trust' between the two countries? Do let Us know!

Before we sign off, readers, let Us tell you that we are rather thin on humour! We want action ASAP!

Happy reading!

Till next week,

Allah Hafiz

Dear Editor

Us is going great as always. The cover story by Saad Javed was well written. Even the 'Poets' Corner' is going great and thanks for printing my poem!

Mariyum Iftikhar, Islamabad

Ed!

The title page of Us published on February 19 was great. It really made me anxious to open it like crazy and read Saad Javed's story on doing 20 things before turning 20. The points covered were interesting and developed an intense feeling of regret in me because I am over 20, and it is too late now :(. However, it was a nice attempt, good choice of topic and 'cute' ideas shared by Saad Javed. Well done, keep it up and wish you all the best!

Ume Kalsoom, Sargodha

Short and sweet

Dear Editor,

I am writing to you for the first time and I must say that you guys are doing a great job! I love Us, specially the 'Graffiti' section.

Hassan Saddique, Rawalpindi

AoA Ed,

I am writing to Us after a long time. The cover story by Saad Javed (February 19) forced me to write to Us. It was simply awesome and well-written. The rest of the mag was also good. The art work by Aisha Mehmood was cool. Keep up the good work!

Unsa Athar, Sheikhupura

Hi Ed,

This is the first time I'm writing to you. I read Us magazine every Friday. It's a very nice magazine and I love it very much.

Asifa Fida, Gilgit

Ed!

Wow! Chachi Chatters' moved me so much! I just e-mailed her at the given address. Apart from that I liked poems by Madiha Ghafoor and Bahadur Hussain. Rest was boring!

Shafia Manzoor, Vehari

Hello Ed,

I was so excited to see my very first letter in Us that I started to jump. Thank you so much! Moreover, I thank you for publishing the poster of Kristen Stewert. I was amazed to see it.

Natalia Khawar, Rawalpindi

Readers break silence…

Hello Ed!

I've been a silent reader of your mag. I just love it and can't keep myself away from reading it. Well, this is my first letter to your mag. I just want to comment that you guys are doing a great job. I liked the cover stories of the issues of February 12 and 19. I want to make few requests. Kindly increase the number of the magazine's pages. Also, add a section for horoscope and little information about latest trends and fashion, too.

Ed, I want to subscribe for a teen fashion magazine. Can you please tell me any relevant website for that? All the good wishes for Us. Keep rocking!

Nida Samuel

Mushi mushi Eddy-san,

I have been a silent reader of your magazine, but I have decided to break it (Yay!). Us magazine is the greatest! You guys are a lot better than other magazines (THUMBS UP!).

I really liked the issue of February 26, and was very much pleased to see a picture of Kai being printed in it. He is my all time favourite character from the anime 'Beyblade'. However, one thing that disturbed me while reading the issue was that you got Kai's name wrong. It's not Kai Hinatari, it's Kai Hiwatari. 'Kai' is from the Japanese language and the 'Hiwatari' is from the Russian language, since Kai is half-Russian.

Ed, I also draw pictures of anime characters and so far I have made 100 sketches in three years. I have sent you one of my sketches of 'Max Tate' (He is a team mate of Kai). I originally wanted to give you my story, but it's not finished yet which is why I have sent you the sketch. I have a very good reason why you should print it. You see. . . I am going to Canada after a week and I want to see my sketch printed in your mag. It was always my dream to have one of my sketches printed in a magazine in Pakistan, so that all my friends who read Us can see it. PLEASEEEE!!!! DO PRINT IT! (And my first letter too!). I will be extremely grateful if you print my sketch.

Lastly, I would like to say that the 'Graffiti' page was amazing, the 'Poets' Corner' was fantastic, the 'Story' was so touching (Keep up the good work Faiqah!), the cover story was inspiring and informative along with 'Aangan', the 'Gogi' comic was hilarious! And last but not the least the poster was. . . . well SO, SO, SO SWEET (Took my breath away!), even though Kai isn't as sweet as he looks but he gets hotter in the third season. Keep up the good work!!

Ayla Nisar Khan, Peshawar

P.S. (Mushi mushi Eddy-san (Japanese) means Hello respected editor)

The error is regretted.

Requests

Hey Ed,

Once again I am writing to tell you that you are doing a fantabulous job! But I've got some suggestions that will help improve your magazine. I am a regular reader of all kinds of magazines and there's a mag which has four pinups and one big poster in each issue. Its paper quality is amazing, and it carries a book, game and movie review, and celebrity profile and so on. But the point is that people wait for it eagerly and when it comes out it finishes in a minute!! Therefore, I request you to please increase the number of pages, and print the poster of Selena Gomez as I am her great fan. Lastly, in 'The Green Room' section kindly provide the complete e-mail in the celeb tweets segment. I hope you fulfil my requests!

Zobia Waseem, Islamabad

Keep it up, girls!

Dear Editor!

Bundle of thanks!  I felt very happy when I read my letter in my favourite magazine. I have read many English magazines but they never haunt me like Us.

Anyway, in the issue of February 19, there was nothing much impressive except a poem written by Ummarah Fahim Khan which was very touching. In the 'Poets' Corner' I think girls are doing better than guys. Girls, keep it up!

And last, but not least, I want to see my first attempt, my poem in the 'Poets' Corner'. I can't wait too long, Ed!

Aasia Riaz Qureshi, Islamabad

Query

Dear Editor,

You all are doing an awesome job. I really appreciate it. All the articles that are included are very well-written. I just want to ask if I can send you articles on celebrities similar to the format of the article printed in 'Ground Reality'. Please do reply to me soon. Hats off to you guys!

Awais Arshid, Abbottabad

Yes, you can!

Waiting anxiously

Dear Eddy,

This is my very first letter. I would just like to say that your magazine is incredible. Although the pages are few, I love the mag. Basically, I am writing this letter because I have sent quite a few stories to Us and I am now waiting anxiously for them to be printed. I know there must be a lot of people out there who send in their work, but I hope you print my stories real soon.

Fartashia Asim, Peshawar

Awe and shock

Greetings Ed!

Okay, so here comes another Friday and I am eager to check out this week's issue. So I open it and begin from letters. And that's where I get a much unexpected shock - (which I would like to add might not be more than a printing mistake) but anyhow I wish to bring it to your notice.

In the 'Reflection' section the acronym "(PBUH)" after "The Prophet" was absent! I couldn't read on as I felt as if something essential was missing. So it's a humble request from your regular reader to be careful next time for it seems disrespectful to our beloved Prophet (PBUH). Keep up the good work!

Isra E., Islamabad

Coming to the rescue!

Ed!

This is in response to Fahim Akhtar's letter that was published in the issue of January 1, 2010, wherein he had asked for the hard copy of the issue in which his four-line poem was published. Fortunately, I have got that particular issue and as I live in the same city, I request him to drop me his postal address at forest_ill@yahoo.com so that I can send him that particular issue.

Syed Jawad Ali Shah, TIP Haripur
