ABCD-Any Body Can Dance ****

Bollywood films have dance sequences but have never made films based on dance; like Hollywood who has made the dance film a new genre. Honey starring Jessica Alba may have been the first dance film after the end of the genre made famous by Hollywood's Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly but it was the Step Up franchise which introduced the world to dance on film again, not to mention Channing Tatum. Initially Bollywood had movies like Aaja Nachle, which was supposed to be Madhuri's comeback vehicle but was based more on theatre rather than dance. Bollywood has finally come out with its own dance-centric film with ABCD-Anybody Can Dance, India's first 3D dance movie.

The multi-talented Remo D’Souza has choreographed and directed ABCD and if his name sounds familiar it's because he was a judge on TV's Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. D'Souza started off his career as a choreographer, he previously directed F.A.L.T.U and now ABCD-Any Body Can Dance which is entirely dedicated to dance lovers.
The movie is about friends Vishnu (Prabhu Dheva) and manager Jehangir (Kay Kay Menon) who after an argument part ways from their dance company. The arguement was over the power and influence Jehangir wields to win a dance competition called Dance Dil Se which prompts Vishnu to quit his job and go back to Chennai. But Vishnu's friend Gopi (Ganesh Acharya) stops him and gives Vishnu a new meaning in life.
The choreography of the movie was done by Remo D'Souza and Prabhu Dheva which was mind-blowing. The stars of the movie were all new faces which were not seen in any Bollywood movie and some participants of Dance India Dance. Most of the stars in the movie were previously seen as choreographers in TV shows for insistence Salman Yusuf Khan was a choreographer for Yana Gupta in Dancing with the Stars - Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4 and with Isha Sharvani in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5. Whereas, Dharmesh Yelande was known for participating in Dance India Dance's season 2 and he was also hired by Farah Khan to choreograph the semi-hit movie Tees Maar Khan. Having Prabhu Dheva on screen and seeing him dance was a treat but his dialogue delivery was very weak maybe it was because of the role he was playing.

Initially when the trailers of ABCD were aired many people were amused that it would be a copy of the Step Up movies but actually it was not. The scenario or the concept was same but there was no copy-pasting. For insistence the dance in the rain was a scene from Step-Up 2 but the concept behind it was different. The Step-Up 2 kids were dancing in the rain because of lack of electricity, but the ABCD kids were dancing in the rain as they were thrown out of their dance studio by the police because the parents of the students were not happy. The parents thought that dance was of no use but the kids proved to them that dance is what makes them happy. The movie is completely about dance and all the dance lovers will love the slick moves.

The music for the film is by Sachin-Jigar which had no hits before the release of the movie but once you done watching the movie you will definitely love the songs. Hasan Rizvi should also watch this movie for inspiration as he is also planning to make Pakistan's first dance movie.

The 3D effect of the movie was better than the previous Bollywood 3D movies like Don 2 or Ra.One. ABCD is a must-must watch especially for all the dance lovers!
