De Couture may have been pushed down in the calendar due to evident
security issues but Zeba Husain has managed to keep fashion's flame
alive with Ensemble. Not only has the multi label, border crossing
fashion store been stocking some of the best names in fashion - Faiza
Samee, Kamiar Rokni, Umar Sayeed, Sadaf Malaterre, Rohit Bal, Tarun
Tahiliani, Ritu Kumar and Shamaeel amongst others - but it has also
stepped a notch up by hosting seasonal fashion shows every now and
then. Last year Zeba and Shehrnaz Husain celebrated the comeback of
Shamaeel with a beautiful garden show and last week |
they
formally launched Kamiar Rokni in Karachi. Though Kami has been stocking
at Ensemble for many months now, this was the brilliant designer's
debut show as a solo act since his split from Karma.
Zeba has set a great example for other fashion retailers to follow.
One has constantly been criticizing the monopoly corporations seem
to be having on fashion by sponsoring most of the fashion shows happening
around. One has also been urging influential retailers like Zeba Husain
(Ensemble), Zahir Rahimtoola (Labels), Asad Tareen (The Designers)
and Sehyr Saigol (The |

to take responsibility and organize seasonal shows for designers
they represent. Zeba Husain is hotstepper because she has done it!
