"I remember when I was a kid my mother used to convince me to write a diary telling me how fascinating it is when you read it after a while. Every time I would start writing I would disappear in the middle and the diary would be left alone. Just couldn't quite adopt the habit, although I am in love with the aftermath" – Ali Zafar, in an excerpt from a post on his blog.

THE VIBE

Basit Subhani's 'Payaam'

Hira Sohail: 'Payaam' is a very inspiring national song. Payaam basically means "message" and this song is based on a strong message of love for Pakistan. It's a wonderful song with very thought provoking lyrics and touching music, and even though it's a remake, the singer has done justice to the track. The song forces the listener to think and raises a great feeling of patriotism, which is superb. Its music is given by Mr. Asad Kamal – a great music composer. Basit himself is an inspiration for all of us. He is running an organisation 'Payaam-Message For Happiness'. It is absolutely fabulous to see such young and talented artists working for such a noble cause. They all need our support and encouragement. The video of the song will hit the music channels soon, InshAllah. So till then, listen to 'Payaam' and gear up to do something good for our great motherland. You can visit www.payaamonline.org for more information.

Odd-ible

-  Gnarls Barkley's new album 'The Odd Couple' is available online…in reverse! Yes, the band has posted a version of their latest album online, available as a free download; only it's backwards and does not include vocals. 'elpuoC ddO ehT', available at fronttobackbacktofront.com, is fused into one track played completely in reverse, starting with the album's last song and ending with the first. At least now we know that the album's title truly defines the band!

- Taking marketing tactics to a whole new level, the good folks at Dr Pepper have announced that they will offer a free can of Dr Pepper to everyone in America (except former Guns N' Roses guitarists Buckethead and Slash) if the band's album 'Chinese Democracy' is released in 2008. A blog (chinesedemocracywhen.blogspot.com) has also been launched in conjunction with this offer, and Dr Pepper is "asking fans to lobby Axl [Rose] to drop the album already". Axl has expressed his surprise at the support, and also says that he will share his Dr Pepper with Buckethead as some of the guitarist's performances are on the album…which has been in the making for more than a decade!

-  In a move that might be the result of either a stroke of pure genius or utter desperation, Velvet Revolver plan to hold online audition for a new vocalist. The band is looking for a replacement to singer Scott Weiland, who left the band on April 1st to rejoin the Stone Temple Pilots.

-  And in even more painful news, doctors will need to break and then reset James Blunt's finger before putting it in plaster. The singer injured his finger after being chased by fans at a gig, and is facing emergency surgery or he will never be able to play the piano properly again. Ouch!
