Celebrity playlist for the summer
It's amazing that our celebrities have such a diverse taste in music. From the chartbusters to fresh music, their playlist depicts their moods. With the scorching sun upon us, Instep takes you on a trip through the sonic-scape of the summer music of the stars....

Ali Hamza (Noori) Musician

"That is a tough question. I don't really have any specific summer favorites. These days, I'm working on a new song called 'Kedaar'. It means powerful and invincible. It's about people waking up and getting out after serious damage. This is the song I'm working on and the only song I am listening to. 'Kedaar' is by far the only tune in my head this summer."
'Kedaar' will hopefully be featured on Noori's upcoming album. After two successful albums like Suno Kay Main Hoon Jawan and Peeli Patti Aur Raaja Jaani Ki Gol Dunya, we are waiting for what Noori will come out with next and from the sounds of it, 'Kedaar' will be one must-hear.

"This summer, I'm indulging in a lot of U2. I don't know the names of the songs but I keep listening to them in the car and on my iPod. From desi music, my summer favorites are the songs of Delhi 6. All the songs from that film are great. Then there is this big fat guy named Barry White, who is my favorite these days."
Barry White, an American record producer and lyricist, became a massive icon after the Love Unlimited Orchestra and swooped away five Grammy Awards.
Dehli 6 failed to make a mark as a film, but the music (with AR Rahman as the music producer) of this Abhishek Bachchan-Sonam Kapoor starrer is worth the purchase.
Not enough can be said about U2. Two decades later, the Irish rockers are still doing what they do best: making rock 'n' roll without losing their signature

Omar Bilal Akhtar (Aunty Disco Project) Musician

"I'm listening to the Mamma Mia soundtrack and I'm not embarrassed about admitting that because Abba were just awesome. For the summer, I like Buena Vista Social Club - their music reminds me of dancing, the tropical beaches and the summer. These days, I'm also looking forward to the new Coke Studio, but locally, the only CD I own and am potentially listening to is Noori."
The Swedish pop/disco group Abba needs no introduction. The band came back in the spotlight last year after last year's Mamma Mia film was released. The film was based on music by Abba.
The Buena Vista Social Club is a band from Havana that managed to swoop themselves into the list of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

'"This summer, I'm listening to Laal. I've been hooked onto it for a month. I'm listening to nothing but Laal. And I absolutely love every moment of it."
Laal's music is all about resistance against injustice and oppression. The band, which employs poetry of Habib Jalib and Faiz Ahmed Faiz as well as their own, released their debut album Umeed-e-Sahar earlier this year.

"I am really really into 'Desi Girl' these days. It's one tune that just catches and stays with you. Besides that, I am really hooked onto Estelle's 'American Boy' as well. These two songs are my recent picks from the music scene."
Looks like 'Desi Girl' fever hasn't ended as yet. This addictive dance track from 2008's blockbuster film Dostana was a hot favourite for the wedding season and can still be heard everywhere.
'American Boy' is the second
single from the album Shine
by English hip-hop singer
Estelle and features American rapper Kanye West. 'American Boy' was the first international success from Estelle.

"I'm listening to Kings of Leon. I'm listening to their whole album, no particular favorites as such. I'm listening to this band called Saturnus and this other band called Empyrium. I'm also twisting this up with Lady Gaga. The music I'm into is diverse and I'm listening to all kinds of stuff, including rock music."
Kings of Leon, whose music is an influence of their religious upbringing have made a mark as one of the prolific alternative rock bands to date. Their best singles include 'Wasted Time', 'Four Kicks', 'Sex On Fire', Charmer', 'Revelry' and 'California Waiting'.
Saturnus is a band from Denmark and plays melodic goth metal whereas Empyrium is pure doom metal with symphonic influences.
Lady Gaga's album is a must buy for all music buffs as it's electro-pop dance music at its best!
