Sana Hashwani
and Safinaz Munir: that's two girls with one label, and that
label is making fashion absolutely fabulous in Pakistan. Sana
Safi returned to runways at the Ensemble Avenue (that's the
snazzy new name given to the showing space at 76 Old Clifton)
this week. They opened the show with a collection that had all
the razzmatazz of a creative genius. These girls really know
their fashion and they do western wear just as well as bridals
or trousseau wear. But that evening at Ensemble, it was all
about high impact drama. Sana Safinaz brought out a breathtaking
collection that undoubtedly made for the most impressive that
evening. Originally scheduled to be shown at this year's Carnivale
de Couture, the design duo decided to showcase it at the Ensemble
Avenue when Sana's mother unexpectedly fell in and they had
to pull out of Carnivale.
"I'm constantly flying between London and Karachi,"
she told Instep at the show. "And there's no way we could
have done the show under the circumstances. Maybe next time,
though!" she added with a smile.
Sana Safinaz have moved into a new showroom next to the old,
they have expanded a business base to Lahore and they will now
also be bringing a prêt a porter collection into Ensemble.
For all this and more, they are our hotsteppers this week!
Watch Instep next week for extensive coverage
on the evening at Ensemble Avenue that showcased collections
by Sana Safinaz, Rizwan Beyg, Adnan Pardesy, Tarun Tahiliani
and also the ground breaking catwalk debut of Bunto Kazmi.
