beauty fix
Made in Pakistan
Instep reviews the new range of products by Luscious, the Pakistani cosmetics brand that seems to be winning over more fans everyday

By Saba Imtiaz

Ultra shine lip gloss***1/2

Probably the best out of their new product range, Luscious' Ultra Shine lip gloss is one of the most useful products to have around. While Luscious' earlier range of glosses (Pumping lip-gloss) came in squeeze-y applicator tubes, this one takes the form of conventional glosses. Even though it has a far smaller applicator wand than glosses by cosmetic companies like MAC and L'Oréal - which women with fuller lips will find rather annoying - the sheen stays on for a considerable amount of time and is surprisingly smooth.

Incredible Lash Mascara**1/2

The market for mascara may have been saturated by now, given that every brand produces one, but Luscious offers a fairly good version. For one, it's waterproof so it's a great choice for weddings (if you're the kind that bursts into tears every time 'Mehndi Hai Rachne Wali' plays). Secondly, it doesn't clump, which means you won't be running the risk of permanently red eyes and eye infections.

But given the amount of mascaras already available, one hopes that Luscious innovates with the line. Luscious reportedly puts a great deal of research into their products, but this range still needs some work. Even a couple of coats of the mascara don't give you incredible lashes. And perhaps they could innovate with the mascara wand as well - one great example to take note of is Maybelline's curved wand that made Maybelline a hit when it launched in Pakistan.

Diamond Finish Nail Lacquer**1/2

This range marks the brand's first foray into nail care, and it was a highly awaited product line. The Luscious nail-polishes come in a variety of basic colours. The colour on your nails is exactly as it appears through the bottle, and it wins points for consistency too. And while colours like red require two coats, it doesn't chip easily. Since it dries considerably fast, it is a good solution for when you can't fit in a pedicure.

Deluxe brush set***1/2

The brush set deserves to be the pride and joy of a dressing table. In a must-have leather case, the kit consists of twelve brushes (intimidating for those who will spend days pondering what each brush is for). This is only worth buying if you actually apply full war-paint, and would actually use all twelve. The soft leather case though is reason enough to buy it!
