Trophy Jackets

WHO      Nilofer Shahid
WHAT                Couturier
WHERE Lux Style
Awards, 2008

Trophy jackets will officially replace the dupatta this season, and possibly even the heavily embellished shirt. Because embroidered, regal jackets are what couturiers in Pakistan are waving as the brand new trend as winter sets in many parts of the country and the dramatic dhols start beating at weddings. All you need to do is pair it with a smartly tailored pair of trousers and an inner shirt, which for the stylishly emancipated could even be something like a sequinned tank top. Your trophy jacket will become your piece de resistance.

And no one portrays the trophy jacket better than Nilofer Shahid, who weaves poetry into everything she creates. Here she wears a stately robe in shades of dusky gold and cream with a complimenting accent on rust and bronze. Bunto Kazmi has constructed some pretty amazing pieces herself, robes that have illustrated eras of Mughal emperors. They have been compared to miniature paintings but unfortunately have never been photographed.

Fia models a black and white monochrome Sana Safinaz outfit in strong embroidered interlaced motifs and sheer black peasant sleeves.

Tarun Tahilani displays a unique olive green velvet coat with brown fringy trimmings, worn with a nude top covered in black sheath with a pair of jeans. Casual meets couture to create a strong style statement.

Nadia Hussain adorns a Zainab Sajid creation: a deep maroon jamawar lehanga with a embellished sherwani open from the waist and flaring down. A trend that is translated well as alternative chic bridal wear.

Bunto Kazmi's red and orange ensemble with just the right splash of work along the neck and the open sherwani coat worn with complementing slightly flared capris.
