Mystique
of the orient has always found its way to world fashion, whether
in the dramatic colouring of an eye, much like Kabuki art or whether
inspiring multiple folds in a skirt devoted to origami. Whether
it's a kimono sleeve or the ancient art of paper folding, the Orient
and specifically Japan has kept its influence strong. With the increasingly
high potential of Japan as a new and flourishing retail market,
that influence has found new wings and designers world wide have
been re-introducing motifs and design concepts that would appeal
to a wealthy Japanese buyer. Here avant garde Pakistani designer
Sadaf Malaterre wears a kimono cut handkerchief dress that has made
several red carpet appearances on women who find it irresistible.
