News-e-land
n File-sharing websites increasing: The entertainment
industry's attempts to curb file-sharing seem to have had the opposite
effect; according to research by McAfee, the last three months have seen a
300 percent increase in the number of file-sharing websites that host
unauthorised copyrighted content. This increase follows the high-profile The
Pirate Bay court battle which found the website "guilty of assistance to
copyright infringement"; despite their attempts, authorities have been
unable to shutdown the service, and its entire index has been available for
sharing.
Question of the Month
Internet and Celebrities
Minahil Ghafoor: These days there are numerous celebrities
who are making quite good use of the Internet by socialising with their fans.
Many of them have their own websites and blogs, but the celebrity who is
making the best use of the Internet is Miley Cyrus. Although her public
profile at Facebook has a really weird name, this girl sure knows how to
interact with people; she replies to all the comments made by her fans, is
really sweet with everyone and even carries out contests online. One of the
contests that I liked the most was when she asked her fans to write the
sweetest message on her Facebook profile, promising that the winner would win
an autograph by her. I thought it was a fake ID, but guess what, there was a
guy who wrote the sweetest message and she posted a picture of herself
holding a note, saying *may all your wishes come true*! I don't remember that
guy's name, but she mentioned it. She is always updating her fans about her
concerts, songs, clothing line and stuff! I salute her for making such great
use of the Internet!
