Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (RA):

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good."

Wake up!

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter in response to Muhammad Asif Nawaz's article, 'Shameful' (November 13, 2009). I thought the article would talk about hope, about unity, but I was disappointed. The only thing that I liked in his article was Quaid-e-Azam's quote which is exactly what most of the people would like in this country. Hearing bomb blasts every other day, I am scared if we are ever going to live in peace again. I request all the writers to write articles that motivate our youth and give them the courage to face the terrible things happening in our country.

A younger brother of one of my very good friends was wearing a watch which had no cells in it. I asked him why he was wearing it and his reply paralysed me. He said, "My mother wants me to wear this because if I die in a suicide bombing attack, they would be able to recognise me."

Please! Be responsible and write for these children. Try to engage youth with your writings. Editor, you have the best writers with you. Please ask them to cover these things. It really makes me feel sad to see that every other poem is about summer, winter, heartbreak, heartache etc. Stop writing fancy things. I just hope at least some of the writers understand my point. My letter may come across as a very emotional one due to the blast victims that I saw today, but I hope I have succeeded in conveying my message to all of you.

AoA Ed!

I recently started reading your magazine and I really enjoyed it. I loved all the cover stories that I have read so far and also the 'Graffiti' section. You are doing a wonderful job and helping us, the students, to gain knowledge and have fun at the same time! Keep it up. It's the first time I've sent something to a magazine so I hope you print it…

Ed,

I really miss your weekly chit chat. It is needed very much, especially in the prevailing conditions. And what's this? The number of letters is also shrinking. Are all the gals and guys out there really busy doing something important or have they gone into hiding due to uncertain security conditions? Shazia Abid is 100% right in saying that we should respect our guests. Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) also advised us to respect our guests regardless of their religion.

AoA Ed,

First of all, there is something that I want to say to all those people who criticise Us all the time. If you really think Us is losing its charm, why don't you just pinpoint the problems that you see in the mag so that the Us team could work on improving it? Secondly, I have a request to all the writers: please stop discouraging our nation by writing articles like 'Shameful'! Everyone knows what's happening in our country and nobody wants to be reminded of all the ugly things again and again. Please stop it! Thirdly, Guru gives excellent suggestions sometimes, but most of the time he/she does not understand the letter writers' feelings. So my advice to Guru is that read the letters more carefully.

Hey Eddy!

The mag is awesome as always but I really miss the fat Us and the poster page. Wouldn't it be back ever?

Hi Ed,

The issue of November 13 was pretty lame. Nothing in it was remotely interesting except the write up 'My average lecture of math' by Zia Ansari. Please bring back the poster page!

Dear Ed,

I have been a silent reader of your magazine for quite some time. I must say that Us is losing its charm, it is getting boring. I remember how interesting it used to be last year. There used to be movie, music and games reviews and their absence makes the mag very boring. Kindly bring those pages back. And yes, if you have some financial problems, why don't you remove the useless pages like 'Poets' Corner' and 'Green Room'? Anyway, what made me break my silence and write to you is the 'Cyberia' section. Ed, I like the page for it gives really interesting information sometimes, but kindly stop printing incomplete information! Minahil Ghafoor's reply to the Question Of The Month was entertaining, but it didn't tell us Miley's user ID on Facebook. Please tell me her ID!
