| As
the pendulum swung both ways in the nail biting last overs of the
Pakistan VS India matches in the T20 World Cup tournament, Misbah
ul Haq was the unlikely batsman who brought the game back from total
loss, even if it were momentarily. India won both times, the final
game being most heartbreaking, but though people accused Misbah of
not being able to handle pressure, it was in fact he who had actually
brought Pakistan's score to a respectable level. It was a jubiliant
moment for Pakistani fans when Misbah-ul-Haq danced down the pitch
and straight-swatted a full-toss from Joginder Sharma for six! That
was some shot and brought the game back within Pakistan's reach. The
fact that he got caught out in the next ball was unfortunate but the
team's failure to play a winning game cannot be blamed on him. He
had no support from his predecessors who had all failed to add to
the score. Misbah-ul-Haq has become a national hero after the tournament
and cricket bloggers absolutely adore him. He has been termed 'the
next Inzamam' and the optimists are even going so far as to call him
'the next Miandad'. The 33 year old cricketer deserved every bit of
the hero's welcome he was given upon return and for his fighting spirit,
Instep recognizes him as the hotstepper of the week. Here's to hoping
he'll rise further and take Pakistan's cricket team with him! |
