'The Lost Art of Murder'
Babyshambles
Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty fits the image of a rock star
completely... a brilliant singer-songwriter, bent on self destruction,
always in reckless behaviour, open for public spectacle. Having
supermodel Kate Moss as an ex-girlfriend is just one more reason
for the media's growing interest in this man. No one thought Babyshambles
would make it through a second record. Doherty's battle with drugs
has been a constant throughout his career, which is skyrocketing
these days. Fortunately, the unpredictable has happened! This single,
'The Lost Art of Murder' is the second single off the upcoming album,
Shotter's Nation, slated for release this October. And it is anything
unlike Babyshambles or Doherty's former band The Libertines music.
This is no garage punk that has been |

playing genre. On acoustic guitars, it is just Pete with strings.
'The Lost Art of Murder' is proof of Pete's ability to deliver a clear,
achingly beautiful ballad, creating an escapist environment that makes
music such a delight. As Doherty sings, "Don't look at me like
that/She won't take you back/You said to much/You been too unkind/Get
up off your back/Stop smoking that/You could change your life/You
just might change your mind" - it just shows off Doherty's introspective
mood as a songwriter. As soft and melancholic it may be in structure,
this track is not a depressing one.
Grapevine has it that Kate Moss has co-written a few numbers on the
upcoming Shotter's Nation, so watch out for Babyshambles. It seems
the boys have grown up and with this record, Babyshambles will hopefully
gain more popularity, even though Doherty is just as content with
fame in Britain alone. For his sheer originality and that careless
yet lovable rock 'n' roll attitude, give Pete and his band a shot.
They are worth the effort. |

'Thank You'
Dido
'Thank You' is the second single from Dido's first album No Angels
and her first major hit. Released in June 2001, hit-makers Eminem
and Snoop Dog sampled the song on their tracks, but it was Eminem's
'Stan' after which the sample track too became a hit.
Singer songwriter Dido wrote this song for her boyfriend after she
got engaged and it is her way of thanking him. The song made it to
the number 3 position in billboard and the UK charts and is often
referred to as being Dido's signature song. The song also appeared
in the movie Sliding Doors, but wasn't recognized much until Eminem
sampled it in Stan. The song has two cover versions; one in Mexican
and the other in Italian. Dido has an incredible voice and her singing
comes straight from her heart because she writes most of her lyrics
herself. It is her own experiences that make their way into her melodies
and 'Thank You' is one of them.

'Fields of Gold'
Sting
'Every Breath You Take' is easily Sting's most well-known
song to date. But long after Sting called it off with The
Police, he released 'Fields of Gold' off his fantastic album,
Ten Summoner's Tales, which picked him a Mercury Prize and
Grammy Award nomination. 'Fields of Gold' is one of those
songs that tells us why Sting is such a complete musician.
And really, this song is a classic. Sting has that inimitable
style that can't be matched by anyone belonging to this generation
of music. In 'Fields of Gold' you realize 'that' vocal work
at its peak. "Will you stay with me, will you be my love/Among
the fields of barley/Well forget the sun in his jealous sky/As
we lie in the fields of gold". It just causes a shiver
every time for its striking melody, the effective landscape
of music with a bevy of instruments and that soft guitar strings
in the background so go download it NOW!
