Ritu Kumar

For the first time in the history of Hotstepper, the title goes to
the Indian queen of couture Ritu Kumar for taking the brave step of
setting up a store here. And what is shocking is that her brand is
so strong that without ever having set foot here, she has started
selling and how! Franchising her flagship store to Zeba Hussain, who
was already stocking Ritu at her multi-label fashion outlet Ensemble,
Ritu is a guaranteed sellout. Opening doors for Eid shopping and the
shaadi season that will now follow, the Ritu Kumar launch was timed
just right.
And now that Ritu Kumar is here, one is sure that we will see other
Indian designers coming in too. The clothes they offer are wearable
(they are far more prêt friendly than most Pakistani designers)
and their prices are more competitive. And the fact that Ritu Kumar
has opened doors here gives us hope that Pakistani designers will
decide to open shops across the border. Some of our labels have opened
in Dubai and others are already stocking in India. The flagship store
is the logical next step. And well, since our designers are now exploring
Faisalabad as a new fashion frontier, there is hope that they will
get to Delhi and Mumbai next.
Ritu Kumar's store in Karachi has opened up a whole new avenue of
possibilities and just for that, she is our hotstepper this week. |
