What better way to enjoy Sunday than by listening to Sunday-themed
songs?
Instep presents the must-download songs to match your Sunday mood.
Sia – 'Sunday'
'Sunday' by Sia is perhaps one of the best songs
that truly talk about the many, many feelings Sunday morning evokes.
The song has 'classic' value and is a 'morning-after' cure: the
song you should listen to after a night out on town and waking up
on Sunday with a headache and the dread of having to somehow get
your system working enough to be at work/school come Monday. Sia's
voice has an enchanting melodic quality, and the song washes over
you in waves. The lyrics are a masterpiece: 'For those who wake
with a blind headache / Who must be still / Who will sit and wait,
for Sunday to be Monday.' Sia is an Australian singer, and her chartbuster
track 'Breathe Me' is a far better known song, as is her work with
the band Zero 7. However, 'Sunday' is a must-listen to, especially
while you clutch your precious cup of coffee, or follow Sia's lyrics
as she croons, 'Do nothing today / Give yourself a break / Let your
imagination run away.'
No Doubt – 'Sunday Morning'
Does anyone miss No Doubt? Their brilliant album
Tragic Kingdom featured a number of hit singles – but what
stood out was the infectious song 'Sunday Morning.' 'Sunday morning'
is the antithesis of Sia's 'Sunday' – it sounds poppy and
chirpy but at the same time the lyrics make it wistful and tinged
with angst. Gwen Stefani's voice has matured over the years, but
on 'Sunday Morning' she sounds very edgy and that was the hallmark
of No Doubt! 'Sunday Morning' also has rather interesting lyrics,
with 'You came in with the breeze / On Sunday morning / You sure
have changed since yesterday / Without any warning.' The 'I thought
I knew you' chorus will make you sing along with Gwen Stefani and
wish for a No Doubt revival!

U2 – 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'
U2's 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' is yet another classic,
and deservedly so. The song, done by the true-to-their-Irish-roots
legendary band, talked about the Northern Ireland conflict and described
the feelings of apathy and anger very aptly. Featuring brilliant
guitar work from The Edge, 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' is now an anthem
from the iconic band. Perhaps more apt than ever for Pakistan, the
song might just be the perfect soundtrack to the deteriorating security
situation.
Here's an extract from the lyrics – yet something to ponder
on while your brain digests the plethora of

breaking
news. The words alone are enough to describe the feeling behind the
song, but the musical quality and its brilliance are proof of why
U2 is...U2.
'And it's true we are immune / When fact is fiction and TV reality
/ And today the millions cry / We eat and drink while tomorrow they
die'
