By the time this goes into print, Rehana Saigol will have kicked off
the fashion season in Karachi with a high powered show featuring saris
designed by her and husband Shakil Saigol. Satya Paul and Shobhaa
De would also be showcased there and Deepak Perwani will show his
collection for autumn winter. It's a powerhouse collection, showing
where Rehana Saigol aims to go. A Satya Paul franchise and Deepak,
a designer from Fashion Pakistan showing whereas Rehana herself is
a member of the Pakistan Fashion Design Council - Bravo!
It's good to note that both councils are coming together on certain
platforms. Maheen Karim (a member of Fashion Pakistan) is stocking
at the Boulevard (the PFDC fashion initiative) in Lahore. Deepak stocking
at the shop of Rehana Saigol and that he was actively involved in
working on the show is a healthy sign of things to come. Rehana and
her husband Shakil have had a long history with fashion despite having
just turned designers. With Rehana Saigol's theatre and television
background and Shakil being an artist, both of them are iconic characters
in both the Karachi and Lahore scenes, along with being avid bridge
players. They've led eclectic bohemian lives and are known for their
sense of fun.
With a partnership like theirs the shop and the brand Rehana Saigol
promises to be an exciting one. And that the shop Rehana Saigol is
located at 76 Old Clifton, bang next to Zeba Husain's Ensemble and
the brand new Ritu Kumar store shows that the women who have long
understood style have taken their rightful place as frontrunners taking
fashion where it should go - with class, elegance and a big bang.
Fashion is supposed to make you sit up and take notice, and that is
one quality Rehana Saigol embodies in her person.
And for that and many more reasons, she is our hotstepper this week…
though we must say that this is one lady who has been a hotstepper
all her life!
Rehana Saigol features on Style Section.
