FASHION UPDATE

Unravel the sari this season

No where else in the world can six yards of unstitched fabric make for such an exciting piece of fashion. And the best thing is, it never goes out of fashion. But as it makes a comeback season after season, the ways to modernize a sari and have fun with it just keep evolving. A leather belt here or a mink wrap there; saris are no longer about the perfect pallu!

This wedding season is all about being as innovative with your saris as possible. For starters, bandhej saris and kaamdani are by no means going to go out of fashion, but it's time to add a bit of sugar and a bit of spice to the attire; belts are a vital accessory if you want to look retro and modern yet traditional. Tie your sari, let the belt hang on your waist or have it drop over your hips, but do get one either way!
Be it printed, jamawar, pashmina silk, block-printed, zardozi, plain or full of beads and stones, feel free to play around with the look; you could add a minimal jacket or a stylish cape to the your sari by following the new trend set by Maheen Khan; yes, capes can now be worn with saris in addition to capris, culottes, churidaars and bell bottoms.

Another way to carry off a sari this wedding season is to wear a fur stole with as it screams chic while keeping you relatively warm around the shoulders.

Be creative with your saris and if you are big on designer labels, then do go check out the new collections by Satya Paul, Shobhaa De and Rehana Saigol, now available at 76 Old Clifton. And all you brides - its time the valima lehnga was replaced by a sari just as exorbitant. That is the new trend!
