Vishal Shekhar strike again with Break Ke Baad OST

If you thought you finally got a "break" from the huge variety of love stories that have been trying their luck at the box office recently, you are sadly mistaken because here's another one heading your way on November 26. Produced by Kunal Kohli under his banner Kunal Kohli Films and directed by Danish Aslam, Break Ke Baad, is a film about couples growing up with each other. It is a current day love story of a couple that breaks up and then tries to get back together.  The film stars Deepika Padukone and Imran Khan in the leading roles along with Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol, Lillet Dubey, Shahana Goswami, Yudhisthir Das as the supporting cast.

The music of Break Ke Baad is done by Vishal Shekhar, which is no surprise because filmmakers producing films for the youth tend to get Vishal Shekhar to do their music but what's interesting is that lyrics are done by Prasoon Joshi. Prasoon and Vishal-Shekhar are coming together for the first time and hence expectations are bound to rise. Let's see whether these expectations have been met or not.

'Adhoore', the first track of the album has the typical Vishal Shekhar beat. It has a very youthful, lighthearted and upbeat tune. 'Adhoore' is the kind of track that gets you in a happy and lively mood instantly and is a perfect combination of the right tunes and great vocals by Vishal Dadlani and Alyssa Mendonsa. While this track might remind you of the soundtrack of I Hate Luv Stories and Anjaana Anjaani, what makes it different is Alyssa's vocals, which are quite unique. The album also contains a remix version of 'Adhoore' which is a good listen too. Apart from the tempo, there isn't much difference in the original one and remix.

The next track of the album, 'Ajab Lehar', is also trade mark Vishal Shekhar. You just need to listen to it once to know that. Sung by Neeraj Sridhar, 'Ajab Lehar' has a very funky touch to it is flawlessly orchestrated. And while Neeraj should get credit for this song, we cannot neglect the fact that Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani, and Rhys D'Souza play a supporting role as back up vocalists in this song. The lyrics of 'Ajab Lehar' revolve around the protagonist's "padosan" [neighbor] and while it might not be a dance track in the film, it will take the screenplay forward.

Prasoon Joshi makes an impact with his beautiful lyrics in 'Dhoop Ke Makaan Sa' where he talks about how there's a day after every night, about how rain will clean everything and leave a clear road. He talks about how the journey of life will never stop. When Prasoon is doing the lyrics, one does expect at least one poetic track and 'Dhoop Ke Makaan' is that track in the album. The vocals by Shekhar and Sunidhi are scintillating and enhance the beauty of the lyrics. There is an acoustic version of this track in the album too, which is equally good to hear with perfect guitar portions. Though the acoustic version looks more raw and real but that's exactly what makes it special.

Even though 'Dooriyan Hain Zaroori' has sad lyrics which talk about the distance caused by break ups, but it still has a very upbeat and rockish tune to it. This might be a sad song but it doesn't leave you in a sad mood at all or bored for that matter.

Another rock based track in the album is 'Main Jiyoonga', which has a western touch to it. With Nikhil D'Souza doing the vocals, one expects this track to be a hit but it doesn't do the magic you expect it to. 'Don't Worry About Me' is an English version of 'Main Jiyoonga' in the album with Vishal Dadlani's vocals. This version isn't any special either. The English version tones down the rock element and adds more melody to the song but you still need to listen to it a few times to get the hang of it.  With the superb soundtrack of I Hate Luv Storys and Anjaana Anjaani, Vishal Shekhar are on a roll but I think they should experiment with something new now instead of youth targeted movies and maybe return to this Break Ke Baad.
