WHO      Maliha Naipaul

WHAT   Kamiar Rokni spring/summer 2009

WHERE Lahore

Kamiar Rokni is one of the most talented designers when it comes to fusing leitmotifs of culture with contemporary fashion and this much acclaimed collection of his - which featured on the TRC/Ensemble runway earlier this year - is one example of his creative brilliance. We love referring to culture in fashion and as tradition modernizes all over the world, here's a look into what Pakistani fashion offers on its palette this season.

How to perk up the traditional...

Sadaf Malaterre brings a touch of kitsch to the conventional chiffon sari (worn by Sunita Marshall) by mixing up the drape with last season's favourite black and white polka dot print.

Bangladeshi designer Bibi Russell caused waves at last year's Karachi Fashion Week with her stunning collection that used traditional handloom fabric and used it to make this outfit: a shimmering red skirt and shirt that can be worn in so many ways!

Ex-model turned designer Atiya Khan styled her models at the launch of her collection in a classic bohemian / nomadic chic way, with the turbans (usually a sight of consternation for many) becoming a true fashion accessory.

Rafiya Naim's unconventional looks added to the unconventional ensemble put together by couturier Bunto Kazmi: pairing a bandeau top with a dhoti shalwar and topped off with an ornate coat.
