A father in Japan has left the world shocked after abandoning his 7-year-old son on Mount Fuji to complete his summit.
According to Marca, a seven-year-old boy who, along with his father and older brother, went on a summit that was supposed to be a good memory turned into a traumatizing experience of his life after his father left him alone near the sixth station of the Fujinomiya Trail.
As per the reports, a 48-year-old father was climbing Mount Fuji on August 20 with his two sons, a 7-year-old and about a 12- or 13-year-old, when the younger became exhausted around the sixth station, which was about 2,500 meters (8,000 feet) above the sea level.
Instead of ending the summit or staying with his tired son, the father asked his younger son to “wait here” for around eight hours and continued to climb up with his older son.
Seven-year-olds abounded on Mount Fuji
As the father began to continue his summit with the older son, the seven-year-old was left behind all alone with very little food.
The boy was found sitting on a bench near a mountain hut after a worker noticed him shortly after 7 am.
As per the local media reports, the child has no money but only has some snacks and a soft drink. The mountain hut staff, after ensuring the boy's safety, contacted the police to report about the abandoned kid on Fuji, where weather conditions could change quickly.
It is worth noting that it was raining and fog was developing, which was making visibility and conditions more difficult.
Police warned the father for leaving his son alone
Police first located the father, who along with his first-year middle school student son has reached around the eighth station, and ordered him to come back.
The 7-year-old was reunited with his father around noon, more than five hours after he was spotted alone.
Fortunately, the boy did not get injured, but the police issued a stern warning to the father for leaving such a young kid behind and highlighted that his action could also violate the law.
The father reportedly expressed remorse over the incident. However, police have urged climbers and hikers to take care of the people with the least stamina and energy in the group.
