Democratic lawmakers and activists are directing intense backlash toward Senator John Fetterman following a damaging investigative report published by “The Wall Street Journal.”
Damning revelations emerge
The report details allegations from former staffers, internal text messages and state officials claiming the Pennsylvania Democrat routinely dodged critical Senate duties.
Among the most striking incidents, Fetterman reportedly claimed to have a stomach bug to cancel a long-awaited meeting with three paralyzed veterans in wheelchairs, only to walk into his office shortly after to conduct a television interview.
Bypassing official duties
The investigation revealed a broader pattern of avoiding official obligations. Fetterman reportedly refused to attend a three-hour memorial service for slain police officers calling the duration a “nonstarter” and dismissed a meeting regarding Medicaid cuts with representatives from a children’s hospital, questioning why they need “free trips to D.C.”
To maintain presence records, former aides noted he would briefly step into committee hearings to be marked present before immediately exiting.
Backlash from party members
The fallout across the Democratic Party has been immediate. Pennsylvania Representative Brendan Boyle labeled Fetterman a “disgrace” and urged voters to hold him accountable, while Representative Chris Deluzio criticized his lack of duty to constituents.
Former Representative Conor Lamb echoed calls stating the senator should resign.
Growing political isolation
This latest controversy compounds Fetterman’s widening rift with his base. Disapproval among Pennsylvania Democrats has mounted over his recent alignment with conservative media, hostility toward progressive positions and overt support for Republican colleagues.
Though he insists he will not leave the party unless it becomes anti-Israel, potential primary challengers are already positioning themselves for his seat in 2028.
