While they like maintaining distance from the royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle love being called royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the US back in 2020, quitting their royal duties and stepping back from their positions as senior working royals.

After six years of staying in America, the couple moved back to the UK in August with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, marking a shocking move.

Upon their return, King Charles issued a formal statement to share his stance on the couple’s status while living in Britain, noting that Harry and Meghan will remain private citizens and will not be part of working members of the Royal Family, as decided by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2020

However, Charles’s decision to classify them remain as private citizens and non-working members of the Royal Family has reportedly angered the couple.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, a friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that the couple “hate” the phrase “working members of the royal family,” noting that they believe it is a “lazy” definition.

"'Working members of the royal family' is a really lazy phrase. He hates it, she hates it,” shared the insider, adding, "They are not 'working' for the institution but they are members of the royal family and they work. Their days are built around their family life and their work. She's running a business seven days a week."

They also revealed that the Sussexes reject being called “former royals,” as they are still a part of the British Royal Family.

"Things like Nottingham aren't done in the name of the institution or the crown, but Harry is the son of the King, he is still a member of the royal family, he's just not a member of the institution. It's misleading to call them 'former royals'. It has an impact on how they're perceived and the way people talk about them,” the tipster noted.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are staying in the UK for an “extended period.”
