Kiran Rao reveals she experienced 'multiple miscarriages' before welcoming her first child

Kiran Rao, who was formerly married to actor Aamir Khan, recently shared her journey to motherhood, revealing that she encountered several miscarriages before welcoming her first child.

In an interview with Zoom Entertainment, Rao revealed that,“The year that Dhobi Ghat was made was the year that Azad was born. And I had tried very hard to have a child.”

She went on saying,” For five years, I had had a lot of miscarriages, a lot of personal, physical health issues. I was just finding it very hard to have a child. I was really keen to have a child.”

After Azad's birth,Rao took a break from directing films, prioritizing her role as a mother.

Reflecting on this decision, she further expressed, “so when Azad was born it was… I didn’t have to make a decision. Obviously, all I wanted to do was raise my baby.”

In the same conversation, filmmaker Rao shared that Azad does not currently have an interest in pursuing a career in acting. Instead, he is more drawn to art, music, and animation.

The former pair got married in 2005 and welcomed their son Azad Rao Khan in 2011.
