Selena Gomez's reason for skipping the Met Gala 2024 has been unveiled.

As reported by PEOPLE,a source confirmed that the Only Murders In The Building star skipped the prestigious event held on Monday, May 6 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, due to her work commitments.

Gomez is now busy with new songs, her Rare Beauty business, and filming Only Murders in the Building's fourth season, so she was unable to attend the annual fashion event.

She also has a major red-carpet event of her upcoming musical-crime film, Emilia Perez, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival.

Besides, the Calm Down songstress, many luminaries, including Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift were also absent from the iconic New York City event this year.

Earlier, PEOPLE shared that the Umbrella singer, who initially disclosed her plans to attend the gala, hinting about her look, had to skip the event as she fell ill.

Perry and Swift were also preoccupied with work.

To note, Gomez attended the 2014 Met Gala in a mermaid-style gown by Diane von Furstenberg.

She paired it with a floor-length evening gown, ice eye makeup, rich plum lipstick, and dangling silver earrings.

While, in 2015, Selena Gomez exuded her elegance in a special ivory Vera Wang gown with a matching floral headpiece.
