David Beckham has disclosed that his decision to bring Lionel Messi to Inter Miami was driven by a desire to motivate the upcoming generation of American soccer players.

As per Mirror, last summer, Beckham made history in Major League Soccer (MLS) by bringing Messi to Miami until 2025.

Messi, who played for Barcelona before, is often considered one of the best footballers ever, winning eight Ballon d'Or awards during his career.

While, there's no denying that Messi joining Miami has boosted the MLS team's performance, but Beckham didn't just bring him in for that reason.

Beckham, while discussing Messi's inclusion in Inter Miami, stated, "It's just that effect that Leo has on the game and the world."

He emphasised, "One of the reasons we wanted to bring him to America was to inspire the next generation. That was my plan. I obviously wanted to bring him for the player he is and the person he is."

Beckham continued, "I played against him numerous times, actually twice thankfully, but I've been a fan of him and watched him for many years."

Inter Miami's owner concluded, "And I always had the plan to bring the greatest player to ever play the game, in my opinion, to our team. Luckily, it happened."

Unsurprisingly Messi revolutionized the Miami squad, helping them win their first-ever piece of silverware in the Leagues Cup last August.

Moreover, in his first full season with Beckham's club, Messi has helped lead them to the top of the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of Cincinnati after 12 games.
