Mauj come back with a bang

Babar Shaikh is one of Pakistan's most innovative video directors. His last few videos, be it Jal's 'Teri Yaad' or Mizraab's 'Kitni Sadiyan' were simply rocking. This time around, he has come up with another gem in the form of Mauj's new video, 'Paheliyan'. The video shot inside a barbershop shows all members of the band performing as well as getting things done. The colourful walls that range from green to pink and blue, posters of Pakistani films on the world give this video a very realistic feel and yet very surreal. Mauj, who have already made a name for themselves with their debut video, 'Khushfehmi' look great in black suits. Omran Shafique the lead singer is a chip off the Ali Azmat block who can rock without hamming it up. Munib Nawaz has done a good job here! The song is also quite catchy. It's bouncy, fun and not very loud as far as rock goes. Sikander Mufti is fantastic on drums. Whoever said "Rock is dead" obviously never visited Pakistan!

Kaavish return

Out of the new bands coming out in the local music scene, Kaavish seems promising. Their debut single, 'Bachpan' was an excellent melody and with it, Kaavish proved that they are not your average rock-oriented band. Their second single, 'Choti Khushiyan' was also a memorable pop ditty. With their latest single, 'Tere Pyaar Mein', Kaavish once again proves their talent. A very soft ballad that builds itself up gradually, 'Tere Pyaar Mein' is a great track. It's soft, heart wrenching and has the ability to hold its head high around the many pop ditties that seem to be coming out. Unfortunately, its video turns out to be quite a disappointment. One sees the band recording the track in a studio-like atmosphere, with Arshad Mehmood in attendance. The idea it seems is to show how a video is shot while within a video. Unfortunately, it fails to make an impact despite an appearance from the director himself. It's a beautiful song but the video is too average. Watch this video only for the song, otherwise skip it. It really does nothing good for the excellent number that Kaavish has composed.

Download Atif's 'Hungami Halaat'

Good news for Atif Aslam's fans is that his first single from his upcoming album, Hungami Halaat has just been released on many local underground mp3 websites. The title track 'Hungami Halaat' is a signature Atif track, one that reminds one of 'Yakeen'. The music is slow, the lyrical wordplay melancholic but the best thing about the track is Atif's haunting vocals that seem to be in top form. This is one of those tracks that has a hit written all over it. Because the song has been released on the internet alone, there is a good chance that by the time Atif's album releases, a few major or minor changes may have been made to the tune. Remember the original version of Ali Azmat's 'Na Re Na' and Noori's 'Khalla'? However, one thing is for sure, this track proves that Atif's upcoming album will definitely be a cut above his last offering, Doorie. In the meantime, one can also catch Atif on the tube as he croons to the remix of 'Doorie'. While the song itself is average, it's the video that really gets one down. Simply put, it's a reminder of the many Indian 'pop' music videos that seem to be rotating around girls. Our advice, skip the video and download 'Hungami Halaat' now!
