FASHION UPDATE

Loving lawn

If you're one of those who bought way too many lawn prints this season and had severe buyers' remorse later, here's some ideas that will help you justify your summer extravagance that may have turned you into a recessionista:

Headbands & kerchiefs
Be creative with what you've got in hand. Lawn is just not meant for making a plain shalwaar and kameez, be creative this summer and use it for headbands. Use elastic on the corners to prevent the band from falling out of place. And be creative - add a few beads, pearls or buttons to decorate the band, or maybe even fine linings around the four corners.

Lawn kerchiefs are ideal to keep your head protected from the harsh rays of the sun. Simply cut out a square sized piece from material, have it hemmed and tie it on your head. Its perfect for the beach as well - and you can avoid having to wear those done-to-death fisherman hats and having to deal with hat-hair. Just do not go in a 'matching' overdrive: don't match your headband and kerchief to your outfit!

Lawn shrugs
Experiment with your lawn by making the kameez plain and strapless with a printed lawn shrug to cover the shoulders. Add thick ribbon linings on the shrug or make it a simple one with a collar and cuffed sleeves. One could even make use of mirrors here- add a few mirrors on the collar and the cuffs or on the back of the shrug to give it a more summery and fun look.

Lawn belts
Summer this time is all about loose tunics, dresses and kaftans. Make your dresses fitted from the chest and let them loose from the waistline below. Add a thick lawn belt to that and either tie it up from the back or use funky buttons instead. Use the belt on the waistline or right under your belly and add pearls or thick lace to accentuate it.
