Weddings
are in full force and the country is abuzz with colourful mehndis
and dholkis. This is the time when even those who don't really
listen to Indian music, get familiar with the latest beats. Instep
takes a look at what some of our designers are listening to and
which tunes they will be bopping to this shaadi season. |

"These
days, I'm busy preparing dance routines as my friend's wedding
is coming up. I'm dancing to a Kishore Kumar song, 'Dekha
Na Hai Re'. Then there is 'Jee Karda'. I like these songs
because one can make various steps to the beat. 'Dekha Na
Hai Re' is an old song while 'Jee Karda' is the new wedding
track and both are lively and full of expression. You can
also wear nice costumes while dancing to these two tunes."
'Jee Karda' is one of the many catchy songs featured on
the soundtrack of last year's blockbuster Singh Is Kinng
while 'Dekha Na Hai Re' is another gem from Kishore Kumar,
with Amitabh Bachchan lip syncing to the tune in a bus.
This foot tapping number is from the hit film Bombay To
Goa showcasing Amitabh and his fellow passengers dancing.
And that makes us wonder which costume would suit Shahbaz
Aslam best- Amitabh's 70s style bell-bottoms or Akshay Kumar's
Singh is Kinng turban (or maybe a blend of both!) |

"I'm
listening to 'Woti' by some band I don't know of, but it's
quite a cool number! I like Billu Barber's 'Marjaani'- it's
a good song. And then there is 'Disco Dildar'. My best friend's
getting married and I plan on dancing on all these masala
numbers!"
Nomi Ansari seems to have the most interesting songs to
dance on! 'Disco Dildar' is an old school Lollywood number
and Shah Rukh Khan's bouncy 'Marjaani' is a current mehndi
favorite. And about dancing at weddings, this designer seemed
the most excited from all the people contacted by Instep! |

"I love 'Desi Girl'. Last year, my favorite was 'Mauja
Hi Mauja' and this year, it's 'Desi Girl' and these two
are my favorites so far. I have danced at so many weddings
and I like a number of songs but these two can be qualified
as the best."
'Mauja Hi Mauja' from Jab We Met is another favorite in
the list of the wedding songs people opt for- it's loud
and one can go ballistic with the dance moves on this one.
There are many remixes to the song, each one having a beat
of its own. |
