All set for monsoon?

It's the time of the year all Pakistanis wait for… monsoon! You dress and accessorize yourself according to the season. And, this is not boring at all but it can be exciting and fun. You just have to know what will be best for you in the monsoon. To make things easier for you, Instep got in touch with some of the fashion icons and found out what their style statement is for the rainy season.

Maheen Karim
It's summer monsoon and of course it's so hot out there. And, for this I would recommend lighter colors and cooler fabrics. Though, I design evening wear I would go for chiffons or silks with floral prints.
For the colors, choose from yellows, limes, light pinks or reds. These are the summer colors that are perfect for your evenings out.

Annie Ali Khan
I love to wear bright and fresh colors like yellows, limes, soft oranges and, most important, whites. If you want to go for stronger shades then settle for solid hues.

Fabric should be soft with a lot of volume in it. Usually I wear jeans and kurtis but these days I have fallen in love with the skinny jeans type pyjamas with nice long kurta and printed dupattas. These pyjamas are not actually chooridar but are more like straight pants.

If you are planning an evening out this season, you can be a more traditional by pairing up your shalwar kurta with large balis and a beaded necklace. You are now ready to go out and rock the world.

Nomi Ansari
There is no particular time for rains in Pakistan especially in Karachi. You might have sun at your head in the morning and as you step out of your house, it starts raining. To be prepared for such situations you should go for funkier, trendier and brighter outfits.

Rain also makes everything greener and beautiful so try to have flowers on your dress. It will give a soothing feeling to you as well as to others. Keep your comfort factor in mind and choose fabrics that will get dry within minutes.

Try white capris or straight pants with funky kurtas. Your dress should be on straight lines and you should avoid layers or frills. The bottom line is… choose something which is easy to carry and is simply designed. You can save the overdone look for the later part of the year.

Zara Shahjahan
Summer is all about whites and when it comes to rains then you can pair white with blue or other bright colors. Go for gypsy skirts, long skirts or fitted jeans. In fact, we usually have water on our roads after the rains so capris are suited for such times. You can wear them at work as well as on evenings out. For the top, choose white with colorful scarves. They are really 'in' this season.

For the fabric, avoid lawns and malmals because they take a long time to dry. Instead, go for T-shirts, stretched fabrics or khaddars. For a hip look you can always accessorize your attire with a colorful umbrella or a rain jacket. These days, you will find stylish rain jackets in the markets. So, stay cool and enjoy the monsoon.
