Wanted ***1/2
*ing Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy
and Morgan Freeman
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov

To put it quite simply, this flick is the ultimate for die hard Angelina Jolie fans. With non-stop adrenaline pumped into almost every scene of the movie, Angie does not fail to impress with her slick action moves and rather erotic demeanor. One must add that there is something innately appealing about a woman in an action hero role and Angie personifies that to perfection. Whether she's swinging ropes as Lara Croft or bending bullets (as well as Beckham would bend a football on the field), she is the ultimate action heroine!
However, as much as the A-list actor dominates the marketing campaign - all seductive pouts and assassin cool - make no mistake, this is McAvoy's movie through and through. Though Angie is looking hot and sizzling as never before, much to everyone's disappointment, her role and lines are very limited and only help compliment McAvoy's. One can argue however, that, that is what the role demands. She is a monosyllabic, super cool and sassy assassin, in total control of everything around her, which is also the biggest irony in the film, since in the end one sees her just as a cleverly manipulated pawn. However, this film is the ultimate in action flicks to have hit cinemas this year.

The violent and extremely bloody tale of this film revolves around Wes (McAvoy), a timid office worker who hates his life. His boss rebukes him, and he can't even gather the guts to confront his cheating girlfriend who is having it off with his best friend. He is the epitome of a perfect loser in life and even takes anti depressants to keep himself from over obsessing with his failures in life.

This man's world is suddenly rocked when Fox (Angelina Jolie), a mysterious, devilishly sexy, tattooed woman with a gun and a red sports car takes him on the ride of his life. Wes is taken to the Fraternity, a brotherhood of assassins created a thousand years ago and he is told the mysteries of his existence. He is told that his father was the best assassin of them all, and that he must avenge his recent murder. And thus begins Wes' commitment to the Fraternity, his painful introduction to violence and the result of him becoming the deadliest of them all.

As Fox teaches him how to develop super sonic reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers the ancient phenomena which influence this brotherhood - the oracle that is the loom and the healing that comes in the form of hot wax baths. With viciously brilliant tutors, including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman), Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. After a rigorous training regimen in which he is almost beaten to a pulp, he emerges as the organization's new golden boy and finds his lost self-esteem in this new and exciting lifestyle. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound valor and revenge, Wes comes to learn what no one could ever teach him the fact that he alone is in control of his destiny!

The plot develops swiftly and leads to the most unexpected climax and all along McAvoy simply rocks as the most unforeseen action hero. And one must hand it to him for buffing up a whole lot for this film and at the same time very convincingly managing to look like the average Joe. Taking him as the action hero of the film is exactly what sets the film apart and makes it a complete original in the over-worn action genre. Jolie, on the other hand, is absolutely who you would expect to play the devilishly conniving Fox. She exudes cool and has never looked hotter. Morgan Freeman as the leader of the pack is also at his best. He commands the screen with his usual stoic presence and adds to the proceedings a nice twist that lets him show a creepier side than we usually get.

There's not a single uninteresting shot in the entire movie and action is its strongest USP. It provides non-stop drama, right from the beginning when the first Assassin smashes out of a window to shoot his enemies, to bullets colliding with bullets in mid air, to rats swarming the Fraternity headquarters - some of them strapped with explosives. The action in this film is explosive! Between all that and the charisma Angelina creates on the big screen, this is definitely one of the most trail blazing films to be released. And while there is no romance for the romantics, we do predict that 'The One Kiss' between Fox and Wes will make it to the MTV Movie Awards for Best Onscreen Kiss!
