Hotstepper of the week
Gumby

It is not easy to accept box office defeat with your first Indian film, a platform that many local actors dream and hope to get on to. But Humayun Saeed is not and should not be concerned. While his debut venture in Bollywood, Jashnn, may have flopped, Humayun has come out with rave reviews.

The definition of "bad men" is changing. Humayun Saeed rolled with the changes and was perhaps the only redeeming quality of the film. Jashnn neither had the budget nor stars that films like Kambakkht Ishq and Love Aaj Kal have behind them. And neither was Jashnn a stroke of decent film-making but Humayun left his mark. From Times of India to Rediff, critics have come out in his praise.

"It feels great to get such a response. I wanted to see how the Indian film industry works and working in an Indian film gives you that exposure," said Humayun to Instep.

He is still a massive television star, one who is hell bent on leaving an imprint in films too. Even with a slew of some not-so-good films to his credit, Humayun is hopeful about the future.

"Working in India and Pakistan, bringing the two industries, expertise will lead to further advancement of cinema. We just can't rely on one good film every two years from Pakistan. It is not enough."
Despite Jashnn losing ground on the commercial and critical front, Humayun still held a premiere in Karachi where the film had never been released.  "I wanted my fans, critics, media-persons and others to see the film. The fact that Mahesh Bhatt flew out was incredible," he told Instep.

For making a mark in an otherwise awful film, playing the role with ease and a natural flair, Humayun Saeed is Instep's hotstepper of the week. Jashnn may not be remembered for its sheer mediocrity. But Humayun will be and that is an accomplishment all the same.
